We visited the Fredericksburg Bonefish Grill after not having been there in 10–12 years and craving seafood. Unfortunately, it was underwhelming and disappointing.
Our initial welcome was uninviting, with both the hostess and what appeared to be the manager were less than friendly. There was clear confusion about seating despite the restaurant being fairly empty. We were first placed near the restroom, then moved to a table directly in front of the entrance where it was cold, even though better tables were available.
Service
Fortunately, our server, Marianne (who was also bartending that evening), was excellent, friendly, attentive, and genuinely hospitable. She helped improve an otherwise disappointing start to the evening. She saved this from being a completely negative review.
Food
The food did not meet expectations. The Imperial Dip was overcooked and stuck to the bowl, the mahi mahi was overcooked and small in portion, and while my steak and lobster were cooked properly, the dish lacked flavor and I relied on salt and pepper for flavor. However, the warm butter heater for the lobster was a nice touch. The fish and chips and macaroni and cheese for our kids were also just ok.
Value
With a nearly $180 bill (including a few drinks), the overall experience felt disappointing for the price.
Final Thoughts
I might consider returning, but only with hopes for a much friendlier welcome, the same great server and service, and sticking to safer menu options. For the price point, there may be better dining options available downtown.

Our visit to Bonefish was on a Wednesday evening at around 6pm. While we did make an online reservation, it really wasn’t necessary, as there were only a few people in the restaurant. We were seated in a comfortable booth right away, but waited several minutes before our server arrived. That aside, the rest of our experience was great. We had the Bang Bang shrimp appetizer, which was on special that Wednesday and each had side salads. Both the Caesar and House side salads were of good proportion, fresh, and tasty. A hot loaf of fresh bread, along with the pesto, was an excellent accompaniment. The shrimp appetizer was plenty for two people. It was cooked to perfection, supplemented with a delicious bang bang sauce, with just the right amount of spice. Overall, an excellent evening meal, satisfying our appetite, even without a main.

Nancy was a great server she needs a raise please and thank you. Crab cakes could of been better. Bang bang shrimp was good. Au gratin wasn’t the best. Mac and cheese was great. Steak and lobster was very good though.

Stopped by for dinner with teenage daughter. Enjoyed the atmosphere, very clean. Server was very friendly and attentive. Food was delicious, except for the oysters. Oysters did take a while to come out, but management acknowledged the mishap and removed the charges for them. Though the trout was delicious, it was slightly dry. Everything else we ate was very tasty!!

The food has been and still remains superb. The Bang Bang Shrimp are so tasty. But what still sets this place apart is the EXCEPTIONAL quality of the wait staff. This evening we had Tony and what a fabulous person! Kind, friendly, and FAST. We watched him manage all of tables well, we didn’t have to ask for refills, he brought the food out right on time, and was buying to boot. That is some serious hustle! We also got to speak with manager TJ who showed us the management is just as thoughtful and professional as the wait staff. A++ will come back!

Its a shame I have to leave this review. The food was amazing The atmosphere was great. Unfortunately the service wasnt. We were poorly greeted by the hostess. Lots of eye rolls when we requested a high chair for my daughter. More eye rolls when we asked to switch it to a booster chair since shes so little. Almost was if we were a bother to her.
The server kept complaining about tips other tables were leaving her. We overheard comments she and the hostess we sharing about other tables. They werent shy to keep their voices down. Almost as if they wanted the tables to hear them.
We got our entrees but never received our appetizers until we remided her. It was the same with the bread they give. Our bill came out to $135. We left a poor tip too. The server was quick to take the receipt to the hostess and show and comment loudly how yet another table under tipped her. The hosstes said ” thats why i could never be a server. Buch of terrible tippers ” and looked over at our table nastily
We exited the restaurant and said our thank yous as we left. No answer from them. My wife says she saw the hostess give her the stank face as we walked out.
Good service merrits a good tip. It was all terrible since the moment we walked in. We were celebrating our 40th year anniversary. Props to the chefs. The food was amazing.

Nancy was our waitress and once she knew we were her table, she was AMAZING! Very personable, very attentive. She was honest that the food would be delayed, but we didn’t mind that since it was one of our few date nights. Allowed us to just enjoy the evening and pace ourselves. The food was delicious and the drinks were on point.

We haven’t eaten at a Bonefish Grill for a while (nothing real close) so we’re glad to be back. Had grilled Mahi Mahi with lemon caper sauce, which was delicious. Had the Bourbon brownie for dessert, which was also delicious. Kudos to Antonio our server who was very friendly and attentive. I do have to say it was odd hearing Christmas music over the speakers at the end of February!
