i’ve been to bon sake about three times now and they absolutely kill it each time. without a doubt, one of the best restaurants on the northshore, great drinks, great food, most chill, laid back, helpful, and friendly staff out of any restaurant in covington/mandeville. i usually get the blue crab rangoons with the ODB roll but last night i decided to switch it up and grab their tuna nachos with madai sashimi, chili garlic udon and the mardi gras mambo roll, absolutely killer.

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bon Sake Sushi & Bar, and we were truly impressed by the entire experience. The chef, who is also the manager and owner was exceptional, preparing two phenomenal dishes that completely blew me away. I would have taken a better picture, but we were far too excited to dive in and enjoy them right away.

What stood out most was his genuine passion and attention to detail. Even while running a very busy restaurant, he took the time to find out our likes and dislikes and personally explain each dish to us, which made the experience feel thoughtful and special. We felt incredibly well cared for from start to finish.

Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. I highly recommend Bon Sake to anyone seeking outstanding sushi, remarkable service, and a truly memorable evening. Thank you for such an unforgettable meal!

We tried Bon Sake and had a good overall experience! The Prime Rib Steamed Buns were amazing, and the Rock & Roll sushi roll was delicious. The Blue Crab Rangoons had too much cream cheese and not much else, and the Blue Crab Roll didn’t have much flavor besides lemon. We also tried the Vietnamese Coffee Crème Brûlée, which was really good.

The atmosphere was nice, though the space is a bit tight — there are a lot of tables in a small area, and it was pretty loud even though it wasn’t super busy. Still, the service was good and the food was worth trying.

We came in for happy hour but ended up staying for some awesome bites and some of the best hospitality in downtown Covington! The special Mistletoe Roll was awesome… our regular Scallapeno Roll and Truffle Tuna are consistently on point! Definitely the best sushi on this side of the lake!

So I’ll be honest, we have been to Bon Sake Sushi & Bar once before and I didn’t get sushi (at the time I wouldn’t eat ANYTHING with raw and would not venture far from my comfort zone) and I wasn’t impressed or unimpressed.

We’ve had a lot of our friends talk about them and we decided to head over, but this time for sushi.

Tuesday Tip – Call for a reservation! It gets really busy and we were really lucky to be seated quickly and tucked away in a nice little corner where the Mouth of the South could beg for sushi. What dog wants sushi? She did get some nice snacks from one of the waitresses. Such a brat.

Miss Soup – 9/10
Voodoo Roll – 10/10
Wolverine Roll – 7/10
Kiwi Mango Roll – 8/10

We had great service from Bree and Chance, both times we have been the service was really sweet! Patio is so nice and we can’t wait to come back and try more rolls.

When I initially told our server I was going to write a review for this restaurant, it was only going to consist of three words. First word starts with F, second word has three letters, last word would be Cody, as that was our server’s name. Because the food was so good, and so ridiculous, that was all I could manage after tasting each dish.

Our table tried a wide variety of dishes, starting simple with edamame and the deviled eggs. The latter of which has ruined me for all other deviled eggs anywhere else. See above re: planned original review, CODY. The tuna was so fresh, the egg ridiculously cooked, and the leeks were the perfect added texture. Then a small order of the Gyoza, which I believe we all could’ve eaten full plates of. So crispy, perfectly warm and delicious inside. Ugh.

Then came the entrees, chicken and beef teriyaki with sauce so thick and rich you’d eat it on ice cream. We also got the spicy scallop handroll, which while fine, was honestly the least impressive thing on the table. It is a really high bar, though. The side/house salad alone is worth the price of admission, with perfectly sliced veggies and a roasted sesame seed dressing I’d sell my first born to have the recipe for. Or maybe I would just buy it by the gallon, whichever the restaurant preferred.

And even though we were rapidly filling on these delicious dishes, we also managed to find room for the Prime Rib Steamed buns. I thought I knew what texture I prefer with a steamed bun, but I was mistaken. This is the texture. I will continue being angry with Cody for ruining steamed buns for me on this, as well. The aioli served on it was just indecent. INDECENT.

We absolutely did not have more room for our shared dessert, which was a fried cheesecake of some kind. If you need me to describe how delicious a fried cheesecake is, your taste buds are probably not prepared for it.

I stick by my original review. How dare you, Cody. How dare you sir.

Best Sushi restaurant in downtown Covington in my opinion. But wait fact of the matter is the small plates!! These bad boys are packed full of chef driven love. Blue crab Rangoon’s also the short rib sticky A+. Had this amazingly beautiful noodle dish I cant remember the name of. So good check them out. Malory took care of us and the service was top notch

Went for a late lunch on Valentine’s Day. Food was good, blue crab rangoons were great. Margarita was not good at all. But the service was awful… it really ruined our entire experience. Our waitress seemed to be very uninterested in actually serving us. We had to constantly ask other servers to get us refills on drinks, utensils and sauces. 2:30 pm reservation, did not get our food until quarter to 4pm.. we were so excited to try this place but will probably not go back after this. Only giving 3 stars because of the food and nice outdoor patio.

This place is amazing! The atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxing. Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Our server was excellent! The presentation of the food was spot on! (Check out the pictures) I had the Deviled Eggs as an appetizer, we split the huge serving of Broussel Sprouts, and I had the Futomaki for dinner. So much food but soooo worth it. Highly, highly recommend!
