First time coming here after driving an hr away. I do give honest feedback. (I was with a group of people where the mother in law paid for everything and I could have gotten anything I wanted.)

Pros:
~ newly remodeled / very clean looking
~ open kitchen you so can watch food being grilled
~ plenty of parking South side of road
~ friendly waitress
~ steak sample I tried was very well seasoned

Cons:
~ very loud with everyone in restaurant talking, couldn’t hardly hear what other people are saying to you at the table.
~ the salad bar is to basic..
~ I ordered the salad bar only and received a small 5 inch plate. When asked if I could get a larger plate, I was told no that’s the only one I’m allowed to use..
~ for a $9.50 salad bar there’s no meats, no sunflower seeds, no tomatoes, boiled eggs. Yet you get a 5 inch plate…
~ all in all, the salad bar feature to me felt like I was being bullied into not eating much of it due to being forced into only using a very small plate to collect hardly anything with the very minimal selection at the salad bar.
~ waitress never asked if I would like a refill after my drink was empty yet refilled other people’s waters/drinks.

Overview:

The restaurant is very clean. Preferably you do need to make a reservation to not have to wait in line. The steaks are well cooked and well seasoned. The salad bar feature could use improvement. There is plenty of parking on the south end of building across a side street.

Would I go back to this restaurant? Only if someone else is paying for my meal.

Note: I do not write this review to discourage others from going to this restaurant, but to give you an insight of how I felt when I visited this restaurant and to also help the owners possibly make a few changes.

The “Bogie Cut” prime rib had a flavourful soft crust, they only had mid rare available when we were seated. It arrived promptly with a decent sized baked potato, a buttered and grilled piece of possibly cottage sliced bread or sourdough. I remember before the fire, before covid, way-way back in the day, it used to be a nice sized piece of Texas toast. In today’s economy I can understand the change, but then again the overall cost of something so nostalgic brings a sense of value in itself alone. I did not for see the cost of drinks, though there is a large selection of soft drinks to choose from they are $2 a can. I did not get to look at the bill to confirm that each can is added to the bill, but I do believe that it is not far from the truth. There have been many upgrades to the facility after the fire, and it was quite loud with a nearly full capacitydining hall, but I do remember that there would be tables in the past that would get loud as well. Bring a set of sleeping ear plugs and the place will be perfect for everyone. It was a good meal and a good environment, and we will be sure to call ahead to place a reservation. We had about a 20 min wait, which is not long at all for the size of the restaurant, but we ran into an issue with the waiting room occupancy and having a handicapped wheel chair bound party member. But the staff were quick to get tables cleared, and previous groups sat, our overall time spent waiting outside was just over 10 minutes and our waiting room time was less than 5, for a total between 15 and less than 20 minutes. I was impressed with how quickly we were able to be seated. I should’ve taken photos of the burger my spouse got and the grilled salmon that was also ordered. They both looked and smelled amazing.

Steak was okay. Mine had a lot of fat. Taste was good could’ve used more seasoning. Salad bar was small but was good. For a small town steakhouse it wasn’t to bad. We were visiting from out of state. Not sure we’d go back.

Salad bar is very limited! The salad plate is small and for the price of the meal you should be allowed more than one trip. The menu needs to be updated for the customer. Include information about the oz weight of the steak, if it’s Angus beef and introduce other cuts. A t-bone , porterhouse , or New York strip. Offer maybe a sweet potato or steak fry as substitute to bake potatoes. My son ordered the sirloin and it looked appetizing. Medium rare but was still tough to chew. He had to use steak sauce for flavor.

Food is great. However the walls are painted black and the ceiling lights are way to bright! The salad plates are the size of a larger saucers, so you cant fit much on them and you cant go back for more.

Long time 2nd generation, favorite of my family. Just completely newly remodeled specializing in the best steaks you can get anywhere.
My favorite is there Prime Rib with the creamy horseradish sauce and if I get there too late in the evening and that’s not available. I can always count on a ribeye that will melt in my mouth.

Excellent food, service, and great prices. The ‘Sirloin for Two’ is a great option for a couple or more. Portions are quite large and we ended up taking 1/3 of the sirloin home. The salad bar and the large salad plate provided lets you build a salad that could be a light meal by itself with bacon bits, cheese, and more.

This is honestly the best sirloin dinner I’ve had in the state of Iowa. All considered, Bogie’s is worth the trip to Albia to try out this gem.

Was with a large party on Saturday night with a reservation. Waitstaff did the best she could with small area. Was loud, and decor was real cheap. As everyone else says, the salad bar is not good. Very small and takes forever to get through. It would be fine if the quality was high but it’s not… The food was ok. The price was $34 for Rilbeye. It was kind thin, cold when I got it and wasn’t all that flavorful. Baked potato was the only thing hot.
$20 for the salmon it was also cold and just ok. The fried potatoes were half done, and some burnt.
Waitstaff did good for what she had to do. Sat at 5pm got drinks at 5:15 salad plates at 5:30 salad at 5:45 dinner at 6pm left by 6:45.
