Is Bob’s Steak & Chop House The Best Steakhouse In Tucson?
Reviews
So, when I decided to take a birthday trip to Tucson, I decided to book a reservation at the Bob’s over there since I was already familiar with the restaurant. However, my experience there was so bad it was surreal:
1. For starters, they had no Diet Coke or Coke Zero. I have never heard of a place with a bar, particularly attached to a hotel have NO diet soft drinks. That is beyond absurd. Although I probably should have left at this point, I had hope that the food would be great.
2. The usually good bread was hard as a rock, impossible to cut and chew and was clearly sitting outside for a long time.
3. The Chopped tomato, Onion and Fresh Mozzarella salad (probably my favorite salad menu item) was terrible and anything but fresh. Sickly tomatoes, flavorless mozzarella cheese cubes. It didn’t even remotely look like the same menu item I receive at the Grapevine location. Very skimpy portions. Even the Nueske’s bacon I added to the salad was chewy and simply bad.
5. At Grapevine, I usually get the Wagyu ribeye but apparently they didn’t have it at this location. At least that was what my waitress claimed. That’s fine I ordered the Cote le bouf.
6. My steak was just ok. My fiancé’s steak was very undercooked at the center and pink with blood coming out (she asked for medium well). They failed to butterfly her filet (the way they usually do it at Grapevine).
7. The pan fried potatoes were thickly cut and poorly fried and the gravy was considerably different. There was no crispy consistency whatsoever. At the grapevine location, they are thin, crispy and simply delicious.
8. Even the carrot was not very good.
On a positive note the ambiance was nice and the outdoor seating was cozy.
I add another star because the manager did the right thing and comped the entire meal. I truly hope it was a bad day, because nothing I was served at this location was even remotely resembling the food I ALWAYS get at the Grapevine location.
When I returned home, I went back to the Grapevine location and was reminded of how good their food is.I showed the pictures to my servers and GM at grapevine and they were flabbergasted. I compare this to the Grapevine location because I don’t want one bad Bobs experience to taint a usually excellent institution.
-The chef didn’t know how to cook a well-done rack of lamb. I received a medium rack of lamb. Sent the lamb back and got a very dry meat that doesn’t look edible.
-Mocktails were fine.
-Soup was seasoned with a lot of pepper.
The food was dry with no sauce. Looked good but tasted awful!
down. Although, the service was amazing and the atmosphere was very nice and relaxing. Steaks were cooked ok but lacked some flavor and I was expecting them to be outstanding.
We split the 22 oz prime bone-in rib-eye it was good.
Came with smashers and a whole carrot, very good. Also ordered mac n cheese & onion rings… delicious. The cocktails came quickly..refreshing & yummy!
Celebrating my BDay got chocolate, huge slice moist and delectable. Took a slice of carrot cake home. Best carrot cake I have ever had! Carrot & cinnamon main flavors had so much going on! Loved the special touch of the menu “Happy Birthday” on the header.
Almost forgot the bread was soft and crusty…oh so good.
