Excellent food and service in a bustling atmosphere. We went there during late lunch on a Saturday and it was quite busy but we got a table. The service is fast and good. Food tastes great too. The Thai ice tea wasn’t too sweet. The snow pea leaf w garlic was good, and rice portions were large.

Super over-rated… food is mediocre at best and over-priced compared to other authentic Chinese places in the area.

Sausage Fried Rice: Plain. Not enough seasoning, no onions, and some rice even still stick together. One of the worst fried rice I’ve ever had.

Noodles: Average. Not bad but also nothing special. Not worth the price.

Soup Dumplings: Taste good but just as good as many other places whose less pricey. Not worth the 30 mins wait.

Scallion Beef: Small portion for $20. Taste great but again, you can get this elsewhere easily.

We stumbled into Bob’s recently… and honestly, we haven’t escaped since.
The place is decked out so authentically you half expect to step outside and find yourself in Shanghai. The dumpling-making window is basically hypnotic—everyone who walks in gets sucked into watching those perfect little parcels being folded at record speed. And yes, it’s always buzzing.

The food? Ridiculously good. I’m literally salivating writing this—and I’m not even in the US right now, which makes missing it even worse.

Service is solid, dishes hit the table fast, and before you know it, you’re plotting your next visit.

Highly recommend if you’re nearby. Consider yourself warned: you will get hooked.

Bob Shanghai 66 is one of Rockville’s most reliable spots for Shanghainese comfort food, especially if you’re here for dumplings.

The xiao long bao are a standout—thin skins, rich broth, and that perfect soup burst without falling apart. The pan-fried dumplings are just as good with crispy bottoms and juicy fillings that never miss.

Everything comes out hot, fresh, and well-seasoned, with generous portions and fast, efficient service. No frills, just consistently good food.

If you’re craving soup dumplings or classic Shanghainese flavors, Bob Shanghai 66 is always a solid move.

Very cozy Chinese food spot for a family or friend hang out. We ordered their pan-fried pork dumplings, Yang Chow fried rice, soup dumplings, and hot soy milk. All of these options are delicious and it’s hard to pick a favorite. Would definitely come again!

The General Bob’s Chicken was the best I’ve had in Rockville! It was crispy and not soggy/smooshy like other restaurants in this area serve. It came with a side of white rice and broccoli. The service was quick and I waited probably less than 10 minutes from placing my order to carrying out.

My coworker ordered the soup dumplings which is one of the dishes Bob’s is known for. I tried one, it was a treat. I had never experience a soup dumpling before but I will definitely order those on my next visit.

Overall 5 stars, it was a quick stop to grab lunch and return to the fire house for a late lunch between calls.

Place is a little overrated in my opinion. The XLB were decent…the spicy ones tasted better than the original ones. The skin is a little thicker than what I would prefer. We also order pan fried steam buns and the meat to bun ratio wasn’t very good. I could hardly taste the filling because the bun was so thick.

Lastly, we were also disappointed about the wonton noodle soup. The chicken wontons were flavorful but the noodles were unexpected. Wontons are traditionally served with wonton noodles (thin egg noodles) but they served theirs with regular flour noodles, making them bland.

Good taste and portion is reasonable, especially Spicy Pork Wonton, it was delicious. I only tried Dim Sum, mainly the food was well-balance and savory, even though there are not many choices Dim Sim Menu but I can say they all are quality selection. The service was fast and smoothly. When you look from outside, the restaurant look like small and hide in the corner of the building, but after you get inside, it is plenty of space dining room and nice ambient. No worry about parking is spacious and free.

p.s. One thing I have learned is Shanghai’s dim sum style is a little different from Cantonese’s dim sum style that you can see more often in Chinese restaurant. Cantonese dim sum tends to be lighter and more delicate, while Shanghai dim sum has bolder, more robust flavors.

Great service. Meal comes with a pot of jasmine tea. Great selection of dim sum. The crab and pork soup dumplings were amazing.
