If you come here on a weeknight, there is little-to-no wait. The interior decor, furniture, and layout are beautiful, and the lighting is invitingly warm. Service was phenomenal – our server each time we’ve come has been so prompt, so kind, and so helpful.
The food speaks for itself, arriving quickly as well. Every single item we’ve ordered (and we ordered a lot!) has simply been perfect. Absolutely no notes, will be recommending this restaurant to everyone, and am actively planning my return!
Here’s everything we’ve tried (and also 100% recommend!): Shrimp Tempura, Bobo Sushi Rolls, Yellow Jacket Sushi Rolls, Matcha Ice Cream, Karaage Chicken, Spring Rolls, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll, Seaweed Salad, Sushi Sampler Platter, Yakitori Chicken Skewer, Miso Soup, Spicy Salmon Hand Roll, Salmon Sushi
They really have something for everyone. They have an extensive selection of both hot and cold appetizers, some of which are typical Japanese fare (edamame, Takoyaki, etc), and some that are a bit more adventurous like tempura soft shell crab or takowasabi. Everything we have tried has been delicious.
In addition to the appetizers, they have a selection of grilled skewers (yakitori) and a nice sushi menu. The sushi/sashimi selection isn’t extensive but all of it is super fresh and still has some less common standouts including an INCREDIBLE saba (mackerel). Anyone who knows Mackerel knows that it is one of the most “fish forward” options and this still has that but without being over the top. It is soooo delicate and the order of sashimi has each piece served with a tiny dollop of real wasabi which takes it to another level.
With all those options, one of the best things about Bobo is their Teishoku option which is basically an entree selection served with a choice of two appetizers, rice and miso soup which gives you a chance to try a good variety.
Every time we have been there, the service has been great and they truly want you to have a great experience. The first couple times we ate there they were still figuring a few things out but even without us asking, they offered to make it right and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our experience.
One note is that as of Feb 2026 they are still waiting on their alcohol license so drink options are limited but that shouldn’t discourage you from trying this new gem in the neighborhood! Highly recommended.
We saw a new Izakaya opened up in Toco Hills and they were in their soft opening week. After reading the reviews and menu we decided to give it a try. We didn’t expect anything special, just wanted some good Japanese food without driving all the way to the city or Duluth. They mentioned they won’t get their beer license until January, so we walked in with a 6 pack of Orion. They were very attentive with their service by leading us to a private tatami room, gave us glasses for our beer, and a complimentary appetizer. Honestly we were quite blown away at how clean and well constructed the interior was (like the lights under the table in the tatami room). We ordered a selection of items and they were all fresh and well portioned. Considering the atmosphere and the solid service and food we wish the best for them and their business as we’ll definitely be back.
You can tell that they care about the quality and your experience. I hope their business and quality lasts for a LONG time.
Also, the side salad picture had several toppings, including avocado, and mine just came with lettuce and dressing. (They did bring me a bit of avocado when I pointed that out.)
Positive – My Salmon was cooked great.
We probably would not come back. But it was pretty good. Note- it’s a bit expensive.
