Everything about this new locale is absolute perfection. The first time we tried to come here, it was a weekend night and we were without a reservation – that 1-hour+ wait was enough to tell us that this place is truly the real deal. We’ve since been here twice and are just counting the days until our next visit.

If you come here on a weeknight, there is little-to-no wait. The interior decor, furniture, and layout are beautiful, and the lighting is invitingly warm. Service was phenomenal – our server each time we’ve come has been so prompt, so kind, and so helpful.

The food speaks for itself, arriving quickly as well. Every single item we’ve ordered (and we ordered a lot!) has simply been perfect. Absolutely no notes, will be recommending this restaurant to everyone, and am actively planning my return!

Here’s everything we’ve tried (and also 100% recommend!): Shrimp Tempura, Bobo Sushi Rolls, Yellow Jacket Sushi Rolls, Matcha Ice Cream, Karaage Chicken, Spring Rolls, Spicy Tuna Hand Roll, Seaweed Salad, Sushi Sampler Platter, Yakitori Chicken Skewer, Miso Soup, Spicy Salmon Hand Roll, Salmon Sushi

We love Bobo Izakaya! We live nearby and have eaten here probably 5 times since they opened and we really love it.

They really have something for everyone. They have an extensive selection of both hot and cold appetizers, some of which are typical Japanese fare (edamame, Takoyaki, etc), and some that are a bit more adventurous like tempura soft shell crab or takowasabi. Everything we have tried has been delicious.

In addition to the appetizers, they have a selection of grilled skewers (yakitori) and a nice sushi menu. The sushi/sashimi selection isn’t extensive but all of it is super fresh and still has some less common standouts including an INCREDIBLE saba (mackerel). Anyone who knows Mackerel knows that it is one of the most “fish forward” options and this still has that but without being over the top. It is soooo delicate and the order of sashimi has each piece served with a tiny dollop of real wasabi which takes it to another level.

With all those options, one of the best things about Bobo is their Teishoku option which is basically an entree selection served with a choice of two appetizers, rice and miso soup which gives you a chance to try a good variety.

Every time we have been there, the service has been great and they truly want you to have a great experience. The first couple times we ate there they were still figuring a few things out but even without us asking, they offered to make it right and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our experience.

One note is that as of Feb 2026 they are still waiting on their alcohol license so drink options are limited but that shouldn’t discourage you from trying this new gem in the neighborhood! Highly recommended.

I celebrated my birthday today at Bobo Izakaya, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! This place exceeded all my expectations. The food quality is outstanding—every dish we ordered was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. You can really tell that the ingredients are high quality and the kitchen puts a lot of care into each plate.Love it!!!

*MUCH Needed Japanese Option in Toco Hills* Unbiased review:

We saw a new Izakaya opened up in Toco Hills and they were in their soft opening week. After reading the reviews and menu we decided to give it a try. We didn’t expect anything special, just wanted some good Japanese food without driving all the way to the city or Duluth. They mentioned they won’t get their beer license until January, so we walked in with a 6 pack of Orion. They were very attentive with their service by leading us to a private tatami room, gave us glasses for our beer, and a complimentary appetizer. Honestly we were quite blown away at how clean and well constructed the interior was (like the lights under the table in the tatami room). We ordered a selection of items and they were all fresh and well portioned. Considering the atmosphere and the solid service and food we wish the best for them and their business as we’ll definitely be back.

Evan was our server and he was great! He gave me and my friend our space and attended us if we needed him for anything. Food was amazing and a good deal. Me and my friend were sat at the sushi bar and had a nice conversation with the sushi bar chefs. They were very friendly and fun to talk to. Atmosphere amazed me and my friend as soon as we walked in. Only thing is the place is far from where I live, but other than that no problems. Will come back for sure!

Went here a few weeks ago after it was announced that there would be a soft opening. The interior looked amazing with tatami matted dining booths. I ordered some yellowtail sashimi to go. The sashimi was delicious with a very tender and rich flavor. Would love to return in the future to see what else they offer.

I discovered this place existed and it seemed interesting enough for me to check out. As soon as I walked in a was greeted with friendly service and a beautiful Japanese atmosphere. It definitely looks authentic and inviting enough for lots of people. The Menu had a lot of variety and the Sushi was Top tier, crisp flavorful and delicious too. They were even cool enough to give me an appetizer to try out before my meal. Right now they are on a Soft Opening, but this place deserves the business when they are 100% ready. I really enjoyed it.

Wow wow wow. What a gem of a spot that opened up in toco hills. The teishiku was $16 and had me as stuffed as as buffet meal. Really good value. The raw fish was IMMACULATE and tasted so fresh. Our server told us they receive their raw fish every other day, so it’s always fresh. Yakitori set was also really good, and I can definitely see japanese salarymen downing beer as they eat this. Chicken yakitori was on the drier side. But the pork skewer was WOW. Flavor bomb Definitely would try the sushi and tuna tataki next time I take my parents. They also have such cute Japanese interior and tatami seating, where you sit on the floor—will have to reserve it.

You can tell that they care about the quality and your experience. I hope their business and quality lasts for a LONG time.

Came here for the soft opening. The atmosphere and decor are really cozy! We ordered the Yakitori and Teishoku sets. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The portion sizes were just right—perfect for a satisfying meal without being overwhelming. Definitely coming back!

The food was pretty good. The Special, where you get miso soup and you pick your main entrée and you get two sides… The sides were tiny. I’m going to upload pictures to show. For example, one of my sides was the egg rolls, and in the picture there were two eggrolls or even three I think. But I got one egg roll cut in half. My partner ordered gyoza, which showed 6. He got 2.
Also, the side salad picture had several toppings, including avocado, and mine just came with lettuce and dressing. (They did bring me a bit of avocado when I pointed that out.)
Positive – My Salmon was cooked great.
We probably would not come back. But it was pretty good. Note- it’s a bit expensive.
