Atmosphere:
Has the vibe of a really well kept secret. Its not flashy, it’s not in your face. It’s laid back and chill. This is what raised my eyebrow in surprise. Usually places like this let their food do the talking.
The service: greeted by a young man who is well mannered and very helpful. I felt like I was welcomed like an old friend who was hungry. When you go to places like this it isn’t about how fast or slow the service is. It’s about hospitality. Once again my eyebrow raised, places like this where people who work there that have manners like this usually put the love in their food too.
My first visit:
Brisket Burnt ends plate with potato salad, BBQ beans, and buttered toast.
Brisket Burnt ends plate: cut into nice big chunks that were really tender. It was a nice combination of tender meaty chunks along with a couple of fatty chunks that really carried a lot of flavor. Both the tender pieces and the fatty pieces had a lot of smoke to them. It was obvious that whoever smoked these knew the limit because it had the right combination of smoke and flavor of the meat.
Without the sauce: 7.5/10.
With the sauce(original): 8/10 (sweet)8.5/10.
I kept getting an after taste I didn’t care for with the original sauce, but the sweet sauce seemed to carry these brisket Burnt ends to another level. Overall the brisket Burnt ends plate was a win in my book. Would I get them again? Absolutely.
Potato salad: 7.5/10
Creamy and light on the flavor. Served cool. What’s interesting is I really enjoy potato salads that have a lot of flavor, but this one had just enough of a hint to make me want to keep tasting it to find out what makes it so good. It’s simple, not over the top, and does the job complimenting the main dish. Well done to who makes this.
BBQ baked beans: 8.5/10
There isn’t anything low key about these BBQ baked beans. They mean business with shreds of pulled pork in it. Combine that with how sweet they are, and how tender the beans are. A flavor punch in the mouth for sure, in a good way. If you aren’t a fan of sweet beans you might have to sit this one out. If you’re from the south then I welcome you to step right up and let it TKO you into next week. Whoever made these set out to make a statement. “You’ll remember these beans” and dammit I did after I finished them.
Alright, I did learn something for those who don’t mind trying things. If you order the potato salad and the BBQ baked beans take a small spoonful of the BBQ baked beans and a small spoonful of the potato salad and eat them together. First taste them separately then taste them together. I have no idea why this works out so well, but it does. Low key, light flavor, but still not to be ignored potato salad coupled with in your face ready to knock your taste buds into the stratosphere BBQ baked beans. It tasted like a perfect combo. They were gone in minutes.
The toast: 4/10
I just didn’t like it. It had a nice crunch, and the flavor threw me off. If you need a crunch with your meal this might be for you, but for me I just couldn’t finish it. I wasn’t tasting butter on the toast either. Maybe it’s me, but it tastes like maybe a margarine or some other oil based spread. Maybe the flavor of all the other foods were that much more superior that when I got to the toast it had nothing to offer like your old high school crush you finally ran into 30 years later. Much like your old high school crush I didn’t let it distract me from what was most important. What actually mattered on my plate.
Price: $23 give or take
Price definitely meets quality. In a world where it seems corporations are giving bare minimum quality we still have places like this where they keep the quality high. They don’t advertise, they don’t have any glitzy or glamor signs, they just let their food do the talking.
