Traditional restaurant with fair fixed prices—it’s cash only. I loved the chicken dumplings, they were delicious! The green bean salad was really tasty too. I had high hopes for the pies, but they looked better than they tasted. They’re just okay. I’d definitely come back for the main courses, though. The meatloaf was great. Good option!

We were traveling from St. Louis back to Cincy from a wedding, and saw signs for the Blue Springs Cafe foot high pie – we thought let’s stop for some pie and coffee…we ended up having the most wonderful lunch. Sundays are family style – vinegar slaw, pickled beets and rolls to share first, then each person orders their own main – and it comes with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans – all the starters and sides are unlimited. It was a crazy amount of food for the cost. We both ended up bringing home leftovers, thank goodness we had a cooler. The fried chicken is made to order, you can request, white, dark or mixed, and its 4 pieces..enough for 2 to share. My husband had the fried walleye, it was seasoned lighted and the breading wasn’t greasy. We took slices of strawberry rhubarb and cherry pie home. Staff was friendly and helpful. They take cash, cheque and venmo. They also have an ATM. During lunch the place filled up quick, and we saw coming in to pickup pie orders. This place is definitely a hidden gem – don’t just drive by.

I strongly wouldn’t recommend driving past this place. I was heading to a restaurant following my GPS, but I noticed a sign for this spot and decided to pull in — no regrets at all. The staff is incredibly friendly, the vibe is great, and the whole place has that classic old-school American feel that really captures the local atmosphere. And the food is fantastic. Their signature pies are especially worth trying.

Long-delayed impulse stop while returning home via I-70 from a long weekend trip. My wife & I have passed the “Foot High Pies” signs along the highway more times than we can count over the years, but our timing on this pass allowed the short detour. After debating what meringue pie flavor to choose, we settled on a whole chocolate pie-to-go (other choices were coconut, lemon & banana).

When we got it home, we measured the height just for fun (approx. 6.5 inches) then completed unwrapping the foil which had some cold water pooling in it (probably due to wintertime temperature changes in our handling & transport that drew excess moisture from the meringue). Some of that moisture had seeped into the pie crust as well, but that didn’t stop the product from being one of the highest quality & tastiest pies we’ve ever had from the meringue through the chocolate to the crust. Half of the pie remains in our home fridge covered on a plate two days later, and it’s still delicious. Even at the current price points (available whole or by the slice), we’d highly recommend the meringue pies @ Blue Springs Cafe in Highland IL and we will DEFINITELY return to try other flavors.

Blue Springs Café – Highland, IL
We’ve driven by this place so many times and stopped once before, always meaning to come back—and we finally did. I love this place.
It’s what I call the original Paula Deen style café: pass-around sides, a main course, one menu with a few specials, and desserts that feel like home. The pies? Let’s just say the meringue is a mile high… okay, maybe not literally, but close
Simple food, simple atmosphere, quiet and comfortable—just the way I like it. The kids work there too, which I always appreciate. Supporting local families matters.
Cash only, but they do have an ATM inside.
Everything we’ve had so far has been absolutely delicious.
This one’s a gem.

Saw the 1 foot high pie sign and had to stop by! CASH ONLY. It’s a cute spot by the highway, I believe they have a whole menu, but we wanted some pie. Morgan was excellent, she told us everything was homemade and gave great portions. We got coconut meringue pie (10/10), lemon meringue pie (3/10), apple pie (10/10), and strawberry rhubarb pie (10/10). Only complaints I had was the lemon was too liquid based and the crust was a bit dry at times, but very much so delicious and fresh. We will definitely be back to try more! I highly recommend trying the coconut meringue pie!

Perfect quick stop for a home made meal. Easy off and easy back on to the freeway. Ample parking. Olde time diner atmosphere. Friendly staff. Delicious home style food. Ample portions. Everything on the lunch menu is $10.95. Don’t forget the pies!

We just ordered pie and enjoyed every bite, the waitress was very friendly and patient with us, as we kept changing our mind on which 2 slices of pie to choose.

We stopped here when driving by to visit family to buy a few of their famous pies.
We bought a chocolate meringue pie and a strawberry rhubarb pie, and they were both excellent.
We will definitely stop in again sometime!

Traveling America for a living affords us the gift of finding the best Ma and Pa restaurants. I saw the reviews and had to try it. Honestly it was a huge swing and a miss. The food is smaller and lower quality than a Cracker Barrel or similar. Overcooked fish, uncomfortable and outdated seating.

It’s cash only so we were very limited. Normally, we would buy a few appetizers, a few meals with different sides to try and a few desserts. Apparently this is one of the last places in the United States that doesn’t take cards so we had to stick to a budget of what we had in our pocket. 40 bucks. Didn’t go far.

My wife is a well known pastry chef “college degree in pastry” she has worked at some of the countries top establishments. She’s also very fair on her assessments. She understands recipes change and tastes vary.

We were both shocked at the tiny crushed $6 slice of pie. But the taste is what sealed the deal. It’s boring. It’s lacking. It has no soul. We don’t like leaving these reviews but decided it is what it is… one star
