Big beautiful deck in front of the lake. Always the best servers. Custom made a wrap for me and was super delicious!

Wasn’t sure what to expect when we got here, everyone was very friendly, food was good & we enjoyed some pool & darts(& shots) after dinner. Would definately go back again.

First time eating here and definitely won’t be the last. The staff was friendly and helpful. Food was extremely hot and fresh. It was almost hard to eat, but so good that we couldn’t stop ourselves! If I could give this place 6 out of 5 stars, I would.

We got battered mushrooms that came with their delicious house-made white cheese sauce. Their walleye sandwich was crispy and authentic. Fries are impeccable. Fettuccine alfredo was done perfectly with high quality shrimp. The bread roll that came with it is the best bread roll I’ve ever had in my life.

TL;DR:
Incredibly delicious and fresh food. Small-town feel and friendly staff.

We sat down, but server after server walked right past us, ignoring the fact that we didn’t have drinks or menus. After about half an hour, we finally managed to flag someone down. Instead of bringing us menus herself, she directed another girl to do it. That girl clearly wasn’t interested in serving, as she dropped the menus on the table and quickly turned away, making us feel like we were a bother. We ordered a couple of appetizers; one was fine, but the other was mostly toppings with very few tater tots underneath. The Bloody Mary was disappointing, with an odd taste and a meat stick that was as hard as a rock. Overall, we would not recommend going here for service or food.

I was dissatisfied with the experience, I use to go to the Blue Max often for dinner and drinks but I haven’t been there since 2020. 8/30/2025 I decided to go and could not believe how terrible the place has become. Dirty windows and sills and unfortunately for me the outfit i was wearing was ruined by sitting on a seat that had been tapped, the tape was coming loose and the stickiness stuck to my outfits ass. The find was over cooked , waitress kept apologizing for everything being so slow. They were not even full. Not the place it used to be. The view was the only thing worth the drive.

My family of seven ate at the Blue Max Friday night, May 28th. I’ve eaten here before, pre-Covid, and the food and service was good. So many things were wrong that I could have given a one-star review.

We were quite disappointed this visit and are not likely to return. The walleye sandwich and the hangover sandwich were delicious.

The all-you-can-eat fish plate was tasty. But, it wasn’t hot and we were not asked if we wanted more.

Two of us ordered the turkey sandwich on cranberry bread. The bread was delicious, but the rest of the sandwich was fair. The bacon on the sandwich wasn’t crisp. I hate bacon that isn’t cooked nice and crispy. I also asked for onion rings but received onion spears.

My wife ordered the fried walleye plate. She had been looking forward to a good, old-fashioned Minnesota, Friday night fish fry. She was disappointed to have a baked/broiled piece of fish brought out to her. I took a bite of it and it was hot and delicious, but bringing out the wrong order was bitterly disappointing to her. Did I mention they forgot to bring out the salad?

Back to the beginning. The place was packed. Maybe they were short-staffed Friday night. But, that doesn’t explain the other issues we had.

We ate outside and asked for our tables to be cleaned. After fifteen minutes I went inside and they gave me the towel and cleaner that is pictured. The table was dirtier than I thought and there were drink glass rings of dried crusty stuff on the table.

We waited 20 minutes to have our order taken. Our drinks were brought out and then we were informed they were out of iced tea. In my mind I’m wondering why they didn’t brew some fresh tea for us, but I ordered a Pepsi. I’m used to drinking well water, but the taste of my Pepsi was off. I asked my wife how her water was and she said it had an off taste.

Not only did we wait to have our order taken, we waited 25 minutes for our appetizer. We waited a total of 55 minutes from when our order was placed to receive our food.

We didn’t have enough silverware, or napkins. And the last complaint I have is we were never offered refills on our drinks.

We normally have good quick service, server was a slow, perhaps new, she needs to learn to pick up the pace. In time she will. All in all, she was pleasant and food was very good!

Three of us, on Sunday of labor day weekend. Great waitress, food was very good and we all had something different. We plan to return when up here in Duluth.

Perfect place to grab a drink or some food. The walleye was fantastic and I will be coming back to this place any time I am back up north fishing near Duluth!
