Everything You Need to Know Before You Eat at Blue Heaven in …
Reviews
This place isn’t just a restaurant — it’s an experience. Tucked away in a charming courtyard with colorful decor and even roaming chickens, Blue Heaven captures the true laid-back spirit of Key West. The open-air seating, live music, and tropical vibe make you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden island gem.
The food is unforgettable. Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, everything is fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The lobster Benedict is next-level, the Caribbean-inspired dishes are packed with bold flavor, and the famous Key lime pie? Absolutely legendary — tall, creamy, and perfectly balanced between sweet and tart.
The service is friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you sit down. It’s one of those places where you relax, take your time, and truly enjoy the moment.
If you want authentic Key West charm, amazing food, and an atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else, Blue Heaven is a must. A true five-star island experience you’ll be talking about long after your trip ends. ✨
After reading rave reviews and taking note that Blue Heaven was listed as having the best key lime pie in Key West I felt this place was a must stop during my trip. After dinner my friends and I stopped in for dessert. Our table ordered key lime pie which has the trademark mile high merengue. We also tried ordering the vegan passion fruit cheesecake but sadly it wasn’t available during service the night we visited. Although impressive to look at, the key lime pie wasn’t enjoyable because the merengue tasted strongly of egg which wasn’t a good experience.
The outdoor dining room, especially at night, is moody and enjoyable given the live music. The outdoor space was serving tropical Louisiana vibes. The service was great. We were seated promptly, ordering was frictionless, and I never felt we were waiting or wanting for something throughout service.
Overall, I’d go to Blue Heaven again due to the good service and enjoyable atmosphere but I can’t endorse the key lime pie. I just wish they would have had the vegan cheesecake to try as it sounded far better than the key lime pie.
Starting with the good: Hostess was amazing at juggling a few large groups that needed Snickers bars to curb their ‘tudes. Navigating through the back was great. Much more spacious than you think with interesting nooks and crannies to settle in for some good conversation with friendly wait staff. The food was good, thankfully. Enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich on locally made bread.
Where they missed, is the staff waiting on us. Barely spoke to us, just gave the “I don’t care to be here” vibe that makes it tough to enjoy a place. Fingers crossed that bartender l finds some happiness in her life.
Might stop in for a second chance because everyone has bad days. Also, noticed two stages so I’d love to come back for live music.
While the pie itself did not end up ranking at the top of our list compared to other places we tried during our stay, the ambience inside the restaurant was pleasant and thoughtfully designed. The interior has a strong tropical feel that fits the Key West vibe well, with lush plants and close, intimate seating that gives the space a cozy character.
That said, later in the afternoon the space felt somewhat enclosed, and the limited airflow made the environment feel warm and slightly humid. This is not uncommon in tropical settings, but a potential improvement could be increasing airflow with additional fans or slightly reducing the amount of interior foliage to help keep the space cooler and more comfortable during peak heat hours.
One highlight of our visit was the bartender who served us. He was absolutely phenomenal—friendly, engaging, and genuinely welcoming. As it was our first day in Key West, his warmth and hospitality made us feel immediately at home. He took the time to chat with us, was attentive without being overbearing, and truly elevated the experience through his customer service alone.
We also noticed the staff beginning to set up for live music later in the day, which looked like it would add a great energy and atmosphere to the space. Unfortunately, we arrived a bit early and were unable to stay long enough to enjoy the music, but it’s definitely something we would consider returning for.
Overall, while the Key lime pie wasn’t our favorite during our trip, the service and atmosphere—particularly the outstanding bartender—left a positive impression. With a few environmental adjustments, this could be an even more enjoyable spot, especially during the warmer parts of the day.
We actually ate here twice and lunch was also delicious!
We ordered their toasts, avocados, potatoes, etc but the toast was the only saving grace.
