Reviews
Blue Gill offers a truly excellent dining experience, pairing a stylish atmosphere with top-notch food and service. The ambiance is definitely a highlight—it’s modern and sleek. While we dined indoors, we noticed they also offer outdoor seating, which is a wonderful option to have. And while we aren’t drinkers, the upscale bar area added a polished, elevated feel to the whole restaurant.
The Appetizer and Mains
We started with the Gulf Shrimp Cocktail, and it immediately set a high bar for the meal. The shrimp were very large and cooked absolutely perfectly, and the cocktail sauce was just as good as you’d find anywhere.
For the main course, my husband ordered the Salmon. It was served beautifully with risotto and green beans and carrots, and topped with a savory butter sauce. The dish was extremely savory and delicious—I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting.
I had the Shrimp Po’boy, which was way better than expected. The key was the bread, which was soft and didn’t overpower the delicious blackened shrimp and toppings. I also swapped the traditional chips for a side salad, which was a great choice; the Caesar base was elevated with pickled onions that added a bright, pleasant “twang” to the greens. I would happily get this dish again.
Exceptional Service and Policy Note
The quality of our service was exceptional, thanks to our server, Hannah. She was extremely friendly, professional, and patient, taking the time to answer all of our questions about the menu. We truly appreciated the level of detail and care she provided.
As a final note, the restaurant does add a 12% fee to all bills. We felt this transparency likely contributes to the service being above par compared to other places. However, we did not feel this replaced the tip, and we gladly tipped Hannah additionally due to the overall quality of the service and our excellent experience.
There were a few minor issues with orders not coming out exactly as requested, but Gracie was on it immediately and had everything corrected quickly with the kitchen. One family member wasn’t happy with the taste of her meal, and the staff promptly exchanged it for a better option, which we really appreciated.
The food was delicious, and the customer service was truly top-tier. If you’re looking for a great place to dine especially for a group gathering.
My only suggestion for the restaurant would be to consider adding a few dairy-free or vegan options to the menu. It would be a great addition and make dining there even more accommodating for everyone.
I highly recommend checking Blu Gill out. We’ll definitely be back!
A big hug and thank you from our family to the entire management and staff.
The food was delicious. We had the special triple tail, Salmon and Shrimp and grits. The fish was cooked perfect, the sides were yummy, and the grits fantastic. The real treats were the calamari to start and the fried chocolate pie at the end. Thanks Blue Gill for a great evening!
P.S.- the drinks were exquisite
For my main, I tried the steak special of the day, which came with a corn salad and pasta salad. My friend had a salmon dish with risotto and (I think) green beans. We both agreed that while the quality of everything was solid, some of the side pairings felt a bit mismatched. Maybe it’s just my palate, but I wouldn’t typically think to put those particular items together. It didn’t quite flow the way you’d expect from a well-composed plate.
The food, in general, could’ve used a little more seasoning, not bad, just lacking that final punch of flavor that really elevates a dish. That said, everything was cooked well and beautifully presented. My steak was a perfect medium, and honestly, that and the cauliflower were my favorite parts of the meal.
I do wish I had gone for one of the burgers or fish tacos, they looked and sounded amazing. I was left wanting just a bit more overall, but the quality is there, and I’d love to come back and explore more of the menu, especially the appetizers.
I tried the coconut cream cake but sadly it did not taste like it. It tasted like fish and I think they had the cake next to it or close to it because it was infused in that taste. I was so looking forward to trying it but sadly was disappointed.
Our server was enthusiastic about the menu and was great with giving recommendations. Truly energetic and attentive throughout the whole night. So props to them having an amazing server line up.
For the fish tacos, I think they could use a little more seasoning to give them a bit more flavor, but overall, I would definitely order multiple appetizers next time because they were so well-prepared. I would certainly go back and give Blue Gill a four out of five stars.
For my main course, I ordered the swordfish, which was perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. The Spanish potatoes were an excellent accompaniment and full of flavor. My wife chose the grilled salmon and absolutely loved every element on her plate.
The service was exceptional throughout the meal was attentive, friendly, and well-timed. Overall, Blue Gill Quality Foods exceeded our expectations, and we’ll absolutely be returning.
