A first time dinner visit at Blue Crab Grill for us. ( A birthday celebration dinner). A nice surprise. Definitely a solid go to place for locals and a new restaurant to add to our list. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Service was focused, attentive and welcoming/ friendly. Atmosphere is comfortable. And being located in a strip mall…has plenty of parking which is a asset in Newark.
It was quiet when we were there, but it was a weeknight and early. Since they have live music on the weekends and it is rather large in size, we suspect it could be much different in noise levels on weekends.

This review is just out experience and might not be consistent with others. Place is clean but was empty for at 6:30pm on Tuesday. Menu is very expensive. My seafood gumbo was very acidic and all I can taste is venigared tomato sauce. Presentation wise it was good but taste wasn’t. The other dish we ordered was crab cakes, for the price they give 2 kids menu sized crab cakes. Tasteful but not fulfilling. Service was okay. But definitely not going be a returning place.

My best friend loves this place so we met here for dinner 8/9/25. I enjoyed my time with her and the service was excellent, but the food has some positives and negatives.

First of all I went here specifically for Fried Fresh Oysters (my favorite seafood) and before 6:00 pm on a Saturday they “ran out.” In addition, I overheard a different waitress telling another table that they “ran out of lobster.” Seems like poor planning to me for a seafood restaurant to run out of two major types of seafood that early in the day.

The waitress Yarley was phenomenal and the male host was super friendly. Both checked in on us often & were very attentive.

The complimentary rolls were fresh, hot, & delicious! The wedge salad was special made for us as a starter (without lobster) and it was great. Yarley even had it split up for us on two different plates.

I am not one who usually complains about wait times because fresh food is worth waiting for and I understand being a chef is not easy especially when it gets busy. However, when we arrived it looked slow and gradually got a little busier, but they did not appear slammed at all and the wait was VERY long!

We arrived at 5:55 pm and didn’t leave until 8:00 pm. On the waitress end everything was prompt. Our drinks and bread came out quick. Then we had our salad, but the wait between salad and two fried entree’s was at least 45 minutes if not an hour.

I got the fried seafood platter, but don’t like Calamari, so they graciously substituted more shrimp instead.

Our food was served hot. The fried shrimp & fish were good. The large scallops were delicious, however the crab cake was disappointing. If you’re going to call your restaraunt “Blue Crab Grill” your crab cakes should be on point & have some jumbo lump in them instead of looking more like a fish cake when you cut it in half.

The baked potato was good. The coleslaw was delicious and my ice tea was perfectly brewed!

The excellent front staff service tipped my review into 4 stars. If the food matched the service, this would be a 5 star.

I was surprised by my daughter for my birthday dinner. I saw this restaurant listed on open table and was curious myself. The waitress was good very prompt attentive and pleasant. I ordered crab bisque soup, I was disappointed it just didn’t taste well to me I sent it back. The drink was good definitely not missing the alcohol lol. My main entree I ordered Crab cake that came with baked potato and veggies it was ok. I think they need to make some changes to the menu and the atmosphere of the restaurant it’s very drab boring and empty. I think they’re struggling and I wish they get picked on the Food Network show for a Restaurant makeover. The staff is so nice I’m sure they deserve it.

We went last night for Valentines Day and were highly disappointed. We arrived shortly before our reservation time. There was a slight wait but got seated at a large booth even though there were only two of us. It took a while to get our drinks but we understood. After a 20 Minute wait we put in our dinner order. We could hear waitress/waiters telling other customers about food they had run out of. There was a long line at the door even though there were plenty of open tables. We waited an hour and a half and had not received our meal or even an apology or explanation for the wait time. When my husband ordered another beer we were told they were out of that and couldn’t offer any other options without a menu. Eventually we just asked for our food to go. Again there was no apology or explanation for the long wait time. We were seated near the kitchen and could hear the cooks complaining about the orders and everything they were running out of. We took our to go food paid our tab and left. Surprisingly there was still people waiting in line to get a table every though half the place was empty. Opened the food when we got home and it was over cooked and not good. $40 for 6 small scallops and a cup of rice and veggies is insane. We have been going there for years and even had our rehearsal dinner there though we haven’t been in a few years, will never go again. No apology and not even a comp for our drinks or apps. If you aren’t prepared to serve customer on a holiday, don’t offer to.

It was my birthday night, and I wanted some seafood with the family. I was not disappointed!! The menu had great selections that I would definitely come back and try. Drinks were perfect, with the perfect amount of alcohol and perfect balance of flavor. My only disappointment was my appetizer of the bacon wrapped shrimp. They seemed overcooked and a little on the small size…. other than that. Our server was awesome and very friendly. The food was delicious, and we will definitely make a return.

Had a great experience at the Blue Crab Grill. Ordered half dozen oysters and a crab and shrimp salad. One of the oysters was a little off, but otherwise the rest of the meal was very nice. The server was exceptional, and the environment was very accommodating for my business meeting. I would definitely go back if in the area.

It was a great choice for a Thursday evening. We were greeted warmly despite arriving without a reservation. It’s a great choice if you want to eat fish. We chose Four Onion, French Mussels and Buffalo Wings for starters. Mussels came in a pot. Taste was not bad but could have been a bit hotter. It was like there was only cream inside. It was very obvious that it was fresh. For main courses we had Beef Short Rib and Lobster and Shrimp Mac. Beef was very tender and tasty. We liked it very much. Service was very nice and attentive. If you want to try seafood add it to your list. Thank you very much Blue Crab Grill team.
