I love Blue Corn! It is one of my go-tos. The food is fresh and full of complex flavors. The staff is beyond incredible and attentive. And the drinks…yum! The carajillo is my favorite way to end a meal there. Their specials are always amazing!

For all the good things we have heard about Blue Corn, we left fairly disappointed and generally unimpressed with the food especially for the price we paid. Everything was fine, nothing was bad, but it did not meet our expectations.

Although the dishes came out looking very nice and full of rustic charm, the flavors and quality felt lacking. I ordered the “Blue Tacos” as it seemed to be the signature taco dish on the menu. The al pastor meat was not flavorful and lacked any sort of char or smoky flavor. The salsa was lacking and did not add anything positively or negatively. The blue tortilla itself was nice, but I did not care for the melted Oaxaca cheese personally and probably would have enjoyed cotija more. There was nothing bad about these tacos, but I realized that the al pastor tacos at Buena Onda (a cheap fast casual taco spot) had more flavor than these and didn’t cost nearly as much.

My wife’s entree was the huarache with steak, which she was also disappointed in. She expected the huarache base itself to be much thicker but it was basically just a tortilla. There was almost more nopales in the dish than the tortilla or chicken itself. There was some decent flavor in the sauce but neither of us cared enough to finish it.

The only other thing we got was a Horchata, which was fine. But when our total before tip was over $50, we felt like it was not money well spent whatsoever.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. We got seated pretty quickly on a Friday night. Authentic and delicious food and drinks. We got the mixed taco special and it was insanely good.

A gem among many Mexican restaurants in the area. It was very lovely to sit outside in the summer. I got the pulpo en su tinta (octopus in its ink) which is served with poblano peppers, rice and slices of bread. The octopus was very tender and not chewy with briny flavor reminding me of the ocean, the poblano peppers were soft and well cooked and absorbed the flavor of the octopus. The rice and bread both soaked in the sauce very well. I cannot wait to try other dishes!

We went to Blue Corn for a wonderful lunch on a Saturday. Parked in our regular spot on Washington Street and walked down 9th. We went in and were seated right away at a hightop by the bar.
Our waiter came and took our drink order right away. When the drinks came to the table he told us several specials that were available. We ordered nachos with chicken to start. They were loaded with chicken and cheese over thick house made nacho chips. I got the beef tongue tacos (with rice and beans) and my wife got the soft shell crab tacos. This was my foody daughter’s recommendation who was also there with us. She comes on the regular. Definitely will add Blue corn on my list to visit again. Authentic Mexican food in the heart of South Philly.

I’ve only been during the day so haven’t been in for dinner service but would say this easily is one of best Mexican spots in city tho I have not been to los gallos yet lol, this time was here before trip out west on Tuesday and started with $12 Bloody Mary which is a bit slim nothing fancy lol.

Against my gut feeling I went with the $15 small seafood soup which had good broth.

Wanted to get fish tacos but instead switched to al pastor which was really good,

The chips and salsa always good to start and if they have it the chipotle soup and shrimp ceviche are both tasty!

Service is lax but I’m never in rush when here lol. Nice staff and excellent food but need to come back for happy hour and dinner tho idk what they have for happy hour menu not online lol.

I had the bistec tostadas and the seafood soup. The tostadas were amazing! The seafood soup was a bit too fishy for me. The strawberry margaritas was da bomb i will be back for happy hour! The server was very knowledgeable I wish I got his name. 5 stars just for him because he ran down the specials like it was nothing and was very kind!

I’ve lived in the area for 6 years and had always wanted to try Blue Corn because it’s always so busy. I finally made it, and it was absolutely worth the wait! We arrived right before closing, and despite the late hour, they seated us with a warm welcome and were incredibly patient and kind. They even encouraged us to take our time choosing appetizers and entrees, which was much appreciated. Everything we tried was phenomenal and authentic, from the Jamaica and Tamarindo drinks (both so refreshing and homemade) to the blue corn chips and guacamole. The tacos were incredible, especially the Puerto Vallarta tacos with shrimp, crab, and fish, the pastor tacos, and the mahi mahi special. Every dish was a hit. I highly recommend visiting when you’re in the Italian Market, and I can’t wait to return!

Food is really great. I always get a ceviche and crunchy cod tacos were perfecto. Excellent selection of fresh ingredient margaritas. Get the chiles en nogales in season in September! Very good service also. Apps, entrees and 2 rounds of drinks for 2 people> $100. They takes reservations and can only.
