We made reservations at 1 p.m. for a 7 p.m. dinner, including a special note that this was for a birthday. What we weren’t informed of is that the restaurant closes at 8 p.m., despite the fact that reservations were still being accepted for 7:30 and even 7:40 p.m. That set the tone early.
Once seated, our party of eight waited on drinks only ( water ) made it to the table. Throughout the night, we felt rushed and pressured due to closing time, which is not what you want when celebrating a milestone birthday.
To make matters worse, the restaurant was completely out of all seven desserts listed on the menu. No alternatives. No accommodation. No acknowledgment that this was a birthday dinner. That alone was incredibly disappointing.
Our server was also managing the bar and overseeing the entire restaurant, so I can understand it may have been a hectic night (especially being the day after Valentine’s). Still, service and attitude suffered noticeably, and it showed.
Now, credit where it’s due:
• The lobster risotto was top tier
• The Blue BLU Alfredo with added salmon was excellent — the salmon was cooked perfectly
• The ambiance and atmosphere were beautiful and inviting
However, three guests ordered the salmon with broccolini, and the broccolini came out severely undercooked—thick, raw, and crunchy to the point where a knife was needed to cut through it.
Overall, this is a three-star experience solely because of the food and ambiance. Service, pacing, and execution on a special occasion were very disappointing. For true fine dining and attentive service, I’d honestly recommend Scottsdale, where this level of experience is taken more seriously.
I hope this was an off night but for a birthday dinner, it missed the mark.
I think they are still learning how to operate when it’s super busy which makes sense as they haven’t been operating for a long time.
I only have two suggestions. One is for the music. I know they cater to the demographic, but being that it’s a Mexican restaurant, I would love if they had live music in Spanish.
And sometimes the limes can be a little bitter. So just making sure the limes don’t have any brown on them or that bitterness can overpower the ceviche.
The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars was because our waitress was a bit short and rude. We have a pretty serious allergy so we had a lot of questions about the menu, unfortunately she was pretty annoyed with our asking.
It’s a great place to meet friends or have a date night with appetizers & a drink or meal. Very clean & first class service as soon as you walk in. Our server was Alondra & she was First Class with a smile & great attitude. She checked on us regularly & sent a sample of the Pozole Soup Broth that was tasty but a little salty. We had a small problem with our food but she resolved it quickly. Our Halibut was waaay overcooked but was reordered & came back perfect. I had Chilean Seabass which was good, Parmesan creamy potatoes & salad. The salad was ok, but should have been crisp/fresh. I believe this is a newly opened restaurant so I’ll have to revisit Blu Seafood & definitely give them a second review.I think they are probably fine tuning things 🙂 I’ll update you soon…to be continued 🙂
I recently visited Blu, a new spot in town. While the atmosphere was pleasant and the actual visual of the restaurant is very pretty .The waitress provided genuinely good service, the food and drinks unfortunately did not live up to expectations.
Appetizers
• Crabcakes, shrimp dish, fried calamari, and shrimp tempura• The calamari was soft, showing good quality, but lacked seasoning or flavor.
• Overall, the appetizers felt bland and uninspired, especially considering the price point.
Main Courses
• Salmon En Nogada: Cooked through, but missing the buttery richness that makes salmon shine. The bell pepper that was supposed to be charred ended up simply burnt, leaving a bitter taste that overpowered the sauce.
• Halibut: Fresh but flavorless, leaving no memorable impression.
• Ribeye: Requested well-done, but arrived unevenly cooked with raw sections—suggesting inconsistent heat or poor grill technique.
Drinks
• Visually appealing and Instagram-worthy, but taste-wise they were just average. Nothing stood out as special or worth the premium pricing.
Overall Impression
Blu offers attentive service and nicely presented dishes, but the flavors simply don’t match the high prices. The food is edible But The lack of seasoning, uneven cooking, and missteps like the burnt pepper made the experience unimpressive. Drinks looked good but didn’t deliver in taste. For a new restaurant trying to make its mark, flavor needs to be better.
