Locals recommended we try Blockhouse while visiting Greenville. Blockhouse isn’t much to look at from the street, but was a FANTASTIC place to eat. Blockhouse doesn’t pretend to be anything other than good old fashioned southern cooking. Oysters, steak, baked potatoes, and plenty of home cooked options. Our server, Nicole was spectacular. Loved it. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the lunch there, from the outside the restaurant is not so impressive, however, once inside the atmosphere is charming. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful in making a choice. Prices where we’re above average for the type of food, but the taste was above average as well. Plenty of parking in the rear of restaurant and also had a nice patio area in the back as well. The restaurant had a full service bar and was well stocked. I didn’t try the oysters, however, I did see that someone had ordered some at the bar and looked very tasty, next time I’ll give them a try. Give them a try and let me know in comments how you liked them.

I really like the shrimp and the hugeee loaded baked potatoe. GIANT! Again, if you crave a loaded baked potatoe that is cooked and loaded perfectly (real bacon)–this is the place! The homemade mozzarella sticks are good too!

While the food is quite good and portions are generous , the restaurant is in need of a deep cleaning. The men’s room was disgusting. The floor needs to be pressure washed. The table was sticky and the window sill had trash and debris on it. The floor looked like it had not been vacuumed from the night before. The server was very friendly but forgot several requests for ketchup and takeout cartons. Both of which were on the bar close to the table so we just finally helped ourselves. The kitchen needs to get their timing better as they seem to send food out 1 or 2 plates at a time and people either have to sit and let the food go cold waiting for everyone to get their meals or eat while the rest of the family watches and waits for their own meal to arrive. Not good! The table should be served at the same time. Also we all ordered off the special daily menu with no real special requests. No excuse! Clean it up and get your act together.

First time at this restaurant, came recommended by a friend. If you go in the front door from the street, the reception podium is on the opposite side of the bar. So, best to park in the back and go in that way. Cozy restaurant with plenty of seating. The waitress was friendly and offered prompt service with a smile and small talk . I got one of the catch of the day (salmon) grilled with southern greens and a salad. The salad was delicious (wish I had gotten a pic). The salmon was grilled to perfection, still moist on the inside but a bit of crunch from the grill on the outside! The greens were great with a bit of a bite to them…delicious!!!

My waitress never returned after filling my drink and delivering my appetizer. I just gave cash to a waiter that was wanting to vacuum the floor and left. Oysters were GREAT! PLEASE CALL BAR RESCUE TV SHOW!

I ordered the raw oysters here and they were amazing! Also, the bloody Mary was just how Iiked it. I tried some of my friends’ food, and everything I tasted was delicious. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice. I highly enjoyed my dining experience here and would recommend it to anyone who loves oysters or just a great restaurant with a variety of dishes.

Excellent quality food in an unassuming environment! Great service, huge portions, fresh ingredients, and nice menu diversity! Close enough to downtown to be convenient, but just far enough out to keep the crowds at bay! I can see why it’s been a Greenville staple for decades! Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for some quality food at reasonable prices in the downtown/Augusta Rd area!
