Beautiful ambiance, placed inside of St. Pauli Piers. There is a terrace on the roof where you can greet cruisers. We had potato/leek soup and porck knuckle, nice and tasty. Beer was super fresh and good. The waiters are very patient and welcoming. It was interesting to hava a sneak peek of food in kitchen 🙂

Blockbräu Hamburg is a great place to enjoy authentic German cuisine in a lively atmosphere. The food was excellent, especially the traditional pork leg, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The atmosphere is warm and energetic, and the in-house brewed beer is also a highlight and well worth trying. Definitely a great spot for good food, beer, and a classic German dining experience in Hamburg.

What a fun place! A buzz as soon as you walk in. We knew it would be good as there was a queue of locals, always a good sign!
Friendly staff, great food, good layout which encourages conversation – we really enjoyed it. Pork knuckle for me and my mate had a schnitzel – both impressive. Oh, and good beer!

Blockbräu delivers a robust and highly satisfying traditional German brewery experience right on the harbor. While the atmosphere is lively and sometimes noisy, the excellent house-brewed beer and hearty, high-quality traditional dishes, especially the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), make it an essential stop.
The Meal: Pork Knuckle (Schweinshaxe)
The pork knuckle was the star of the show. It arrived perfectly prepared:
• Skin/Crackling: The exterior skin was incredibly crispy and perfectly rendered, shattering beautifully on the fork. This is the mark of a well-executed Haxe.
• Meat: The meat underneath was fall-off-the-bone tender, moist, and flavorful. The portion size was generous, as expected from a proper Brauhaus.
• Sides: Paired perfectly with the traditional sides (like potato dumplings or sauerkraut), cutting through the richness of the pork.
Atmosphere & Service
Blockbräu’s setting directly at the Landungsbrücken is unbeatable, offering a wonderful view of the harbor—especially from the rooftop terrace.
• Vibe: The overall vibe is exactly what you want from a German brewery: rustic, lively, and often accompanied by music. It’s a great place to soak up the energy of the city.
• Beer: The house-brewed beer (I tried the Helles) was fresh, excellent, and the ideal complement to the rich food.
Verdict
For anyone seeking an authentic, hearty German meal in a stunning location, Blockbräu is highly recommended. The atmosphere is boisterous, but the excellent food and great house beer are worth it. If you’re a fan of traditional dishes, the pork knuckle is a must-try.

Beautiful location with a great view

The location is simply stunning – right by the water, with a wonderful view of the harbor and the passing ships. Especially on a nice day, the view is a real highlight.

The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was freshly prepared, beautifully presented, and tasted excellent.

Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience – highly recommended!

Stopped by Blockbräu for lunch after crossing under the Elbe.

Sat at the biertische and ordered a schnitzel. It was crisp, golden and exactly what it should be. The Munich-style Weißbier was lovely, and service was on point despite the lunchtime rush.

Big windows, open space, and a steady stream of seagulls circling the ferry terminals outside. A solid spot if you enjoy your beer with a view (and a hint of diesel in the breeze).

Would 100% return. Possibly just for the schnitzel.

Edit:
I sat in the establishment, having a few beers, and eventually decided to also have the 700g Schweinshaxe, and it did not dissapoint.

This is a meal for Kings and probably what I should have gone with in the first place. But I was just dying for a Schnitzel so I ordered that without looking at the menu.

If I return here before I leave Hamburg I’m gonna try the Kalbsbratwurst at €20

Came here as part of a stag do and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier or more patient. Drinks came out fast, and the food was excellent — from the pretzel to the haxe, everything was soft, well seasoned, and delicious. The atmosphere was lively with plenty of groups celebrating, from bachelorettes to tourists, but everyone was well-behaved so it never spoiled the experience. A great spot for good food, drinks, and a fun time.

Excellent beer pub right on the water overlooking the river, in a very good location. It’s pretty famous. It’s in the old block house. We were there at midday and got a light appetizer, beer and coffee. The prices were very reasonable for the area, and for being in the most touristy spot in Hamburg. We got an appetizer, fish bites, which were large and tasty with bread, pickles and salad, etc. A half liter of their good pale ale “Helles “ beer was only €6.50, and coffee was €4. Portions for the lunch entrees looked huge! Our server was really great, although very, very busy. Obviously the place was packed, and they were seating people at long tables with others, which was fine. There is a beautiful view of the river as the ferry go by. This is a very pleasant place, and a good spot for a snack and good draft beer. I imagine it’s very crowded in the evenings. It’s three levels. Outside there are many, many shops, and it’s a major stop for all of the different hop on hop off bus routes. You can also buy a boat tour for €30 each. English menu in the pictures, or you can scan the QR code on the front of the menu.
