American & Chinese food in the same place. Mom can get the Sesame chicken and dad can grab a burger.
Good food. It’s worth the drive.
Service is just o.k.
Clean dining room but it could use a face lift.
Detailed version. My wife and I arrived at 5:45 pm on a Wednesday. The sign at the door said “Register with Hostess at the Bar”. This was kind of difficult as none of the employees wear name tags or any type of uniform. We could not identify the hostess. The two bartenders were busy filling orders for a packed bar area. Apparently the hostess station is too the right (I wouldn’t have known) and just a “section of the bar” as a group of locals came in and cut in front of us. No one acknowledged us at all asked if we were helped. I’m not easy to miss at 6’4″.
After standing for about 10 minutes, looking for someone in charge, I spotted a waitress taking orders from a row of people on the other end of the bar. I walked over, and when she was between people, said “excuse me, I’m sorry to interrupt, but who do I see to get a table?” She said you have to grab one of the waitresses (identifiable only by their note pads). She asked how many, I said “only two”, then went back to my wife.
After a several more minutes I squeezed up to the bar (still no apparent “hostess”) and asked the bartender how to get seated. She said just grab someone. Ok.
Finally another waitress came up (about 6:15) and said she saw us standing there, had anyone helped us. I said we would like a table, just two of us. She took us straight to a table in the dining room, apologizing that they were a bit busy tonight.
She took our drink order and came back with those quickly. We had a few moments to look over the menu and decided on steak. Our salads came quickly, rather yellow and very little tomato or anything other than iceberg lettuce. Our steaks came in a reasonable amount of time. The garlic mashed potatoes looked, smelled, and tasted great, however I would have liked more than a two fork-fulls. Both steaks were seriously under cooked. My wife’s had blood oozing out of it, and she’d ordered it well-done. I ordered mine medium, but it was well on one end, rare on the other. Guess if I fold the two halves over on each other it would come out even…
The bill was $70. IMHO this is ridiculously over-priced for the amount of food, not to mention the quality. I won’t event go into the loud, obnoxious people that have no awareness of themselves in social situations. That’s not the restaurant’s fault.
If you’re driving down highway 26 or 16/60, and you are hungry, keep going. This place has a “great reputation”, but they didn’t come close to living up to it tonight.
