Hands down, the best beef brisket anywhere. We ordered a full slab of ribs, 2lbs of beef brisket, a whole chicken, a smoked loaded potato and potato salad. It was fantastic!
Prices are a little higher than normal but it’s worth it when you are eating great food.
Parking is plentiful and free. We were first in line at 10:30 (they open at 11:00) and by 10:45 there were 20+ customers.
The staff were very friendly and attentive.
I highly recommend this place!

Everytime we visit my husband’s family in Johnston city we always stop by here, especially Fridays or Saturdays. And ordered 2Lbs bbq to be brought back home in Kentucky. And also their coleslaw i love it.. Wants to copy that recipe. Hehehe yeeee– Haa

Hands down the best brisket sandwich ever. I decided to put some of the apple coleslaw on top of my sandwich. Each is absolutely delicious on its own, but together, the flavors were the perfect combinations. The brisket was moist and tender with just the right amount of smoke flavor. The apple coleslaw was so delicious. I brought home some of the bread pudding. It was moist and light exactly how bread pudding should be. Great flavor !
If you have been wanting to try their food and haven’t, you are missing out. There is plenty of parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is a screened in area. It was warm today, and we were very comfortable during our meal.
Definitely recommend

We ordered two brisket sandwiches, armadillo egg, jalapeño/cheddar sausage link and all the sides- some 8oz some 16oz. $66 for all of it for 3 people. There are leftovers of everything besides the armadillo egg. Baked beans were a little undercooked, cream corn was a bit soupy, mac n’ cheese had a texture to it that made us think one of the cheeses didn’t melt as much as it should but ALL of the sides had great flavor. Armadillo egg was good, brisket sandwiches were big and brisket was tender. Sausage link was sliced up already and it was very good- nicely ground and the casing was not chewy. We will definitely order from this place again and we highly recommend it!! The only bummer is that they’re open Fridays and Saturdays 11a-7p. I walked in at 11:03am and one of the pictures shows the line of customers.

Heading home from a cross country trip. Read the reviews for Blazing Trails Texas BBQ and decided to stop in for dinner. So glad we did. Absolutely fantastic. Definitely has that small town vibe. We sat next to a local man and he shared with us the history of the place. They’re only open on Friday and Saturdays because they’re catering throughout the week. You order your food and then go find a table. Your food comes wrapped in butcher paper in a brown bag, ready to go or eat in. Looks like it’s an outdoor seating area in warmer months, and then they throw up the clear corrugated plastic to close it in during winter months. They have heaters blasting. The portions are plenty. You can order the meat by itself or ask to have it put in a sandwich. Worth the stop. Only a couple of minutes off highway 57.

I wish the ribs were tender, maybe its just my luck but the 3 times I’ve ordered them they weren’t. Armadillo eggs are the best! I’d recommend those to anyone

My wife, kids, and I took the two-hour trip to visit. We recently drove to Texas from St. Louis just to try BBQ and were excited to try some Texas-style BBQ closer to home.
The staff couldn’t have been nicer. You could tell just by speaking to them that they love BBQ. My wife got the loaded brisket potato that was on special. It was enough for both lunch and dinner—and it was amazing. My boys both tried a pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese. I personally did not try the pulled pork, but my boys loved it. The sandwich was huge, and I’ll probably eat some later.
I tried 1/3 lb of turkey, 1/3 lb of brisket, and half a rack of ribs. Turkey is an absolute staple in BBQ restaurants and is often overlooked by brisket and pork. The turkey was fall-apart tender and definitely the best in the area. The brisket had a delicious bark and held up to the “pull test” standards. It was a moist brisket that clearly hadn’t been sitting out all day. The ribs were very flavorful and had a beautiful smoke ring. They had very little pull and were extremely tender.
I talked with the staff about my love for BBQ and found some nice little treats in my bag. I found a couple of samples of jalapeño cheddar sausage and smoked bologna. The sausage is something I never order because I usually love trying everything else. If this is what it tastes like everywhere, then I’ve been missing out. The heat from the jalapeños was perfect with the cheese. The bologna chub had a sweet rub and was also very good.
These were two things I would’ve never tried, and I’m super grateful they allowed me to sample them because I’ll definitely be ordering them now. It’s nice to have a place close to home where I can get my Texas BBQ fix without driving 12+ hours. Thanks for all the hospitality—we’ll be seeing you guys again soon.

Absolutely delicious BBQ. Best is have had in a while. So much better than 17th street and now that I live in the Chicago area, it is better than any restaurant up there. Now there was a line to order but it wasn’t bad at all. We got the armadillo egg, burnt ends with spicy mac and cheese, and a brisket cheesesteak with potato salad. The armadillo egg was absolutely delicious. It’s massive though. We split it with a group so everyone could try it. The cheesesteak was my favorite granted the burnt ends were really good too. I loved the potato salad. We will definitely be getting it again the next time we are in the area.

One of the best BBQ joints in the country…not the county….the country. Honestly shocked they only score a 4.9 and not a 5. Try the armadillo eggs and the smoked Mac n cheese….they will change your life.

By far the BEST BBQ we’ve had since we moved here. And we are from Memphis so we know BBQ! So tender and juicy, so flavorful, and the sweeter sauce is a win for me! The macaroni and cheese and potato salad complimented the meats very well. Everything we had was top notch and this will be our permanent BBQ spot! (Please don’t decide to shut down anytime soon!) Nice environment, and super nice staff also!
