LOCATION – located in a business center, there’s the restaurant, and there are their corporate offices. You’ll easily be able to spot out the restaurant part. They do have an open patio that does allow dogs. I was a little worried because it looked like it was part of the indoor portion, but I checked with the staff first and was able to bring in our pup. Parking in plentiful, so no worries there.
SERVICE – Really friendly and helpful people! Each single person. You order at the counter then they bring you your food to the table. We’re a party of 6 so wanted to figure out how to get what we all wanted without an abundance of food, so the lady at the counter helped us so politely. Didn’t make us feel bad at all for not really being 100% ready when we approached the counter. The guy who delivered our food was quirky and super nice!
AMBIANCE – Very casual feel. I feel as if when it gets busy, there is a wait, but we did an early dinner so we were good and there was a table for us 6, no problem.
FOOD – Everything was pretty good! Again, I’m no BBQ-snob. But we all really liked their BBQ sauce because it wasn’t too vinegar-y and didn’t punch you in the face. It was so good my dad ended up buying a bottle! Their mac n cheese was my favorite side dish and their brisket was delicious! The only thing I noticed was their baby back ribs and spare ribs wasn’t as tender, so you do have to work for it. But other than that, great!
PRICE – Price point for this place was actually pretty decent. No complaints, especially in this economy.
The next time I went to the restaurant and I ordered the BBQ ribs which were okay but the dish didn’t have enough meat on them and the BBQ sauce was still okay. One time I was there recently I got their chicken wings with BBQ sauce flavor and now I’ve been figuring the BBQ sauce is not to my liking. Anyway the customer service is amazing as always I just wish the food was as good as the customer service. Again I don’t mean to be harsh I am just being honest on these type of reviews.
Service is incredible, everyone is so friendly and kind.
Thanks! Don’t forget getting a fat tire.
And wow, I’m so glad I did.
Now, I’ll be honest, I’m friends with Gene, so this could sound biased, but this was hands down the best barbecue I’ve had in Orange County. I wouldn’t call myself a barbecue connoisseur, but I’ve eaten my fair share in Texas multiple times at some incredible spots, and Blake’s Place took me right back.
The place was buzzing at lunchtime, packed with happy people, amazing smells in the air, and a super friendly staff. Gene came out with an absolute feast: pork ribs, baby back ribs, smoked and sweet chicken wings, brisket (both lean and fatty), pulled pork, smoked turkey, and sausage. It was the works. Blake came out to say hi and make sure our meal was a 10/10, he even came back with some special sauce and a few select bites that he wanted us to try. Made us feel very special!
Everything was delicious, and the standout for me was the fatty brisket, melt-in-your-mouth good. Their house barbecue sauce was on point too, perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and surprisingly low in sugar, which I really appreciated.
And I have to mention this, the coleslaw was incredible. I’m picky about coleslaw, and this one hit the mark: lightly dressed, still crunchy, and the perfect refreshing bite between all the rich, smoky meat. The baked beans were great too.
What really stood out was the vibe, genuine people doing real barbecue right. I felt the passion in the food and the atmosphere.
To top it off, I learned that Blake’s Place, named after Gene’s son Blake, also does a ton of catering for big events, parties, and even holiday meals. I think we’ll be ordering from them for Thanksgiving this year.
If you haven’t been yet, put Blake’s Place on your BBQ list. And if you have, you already know what I’m talking about.
Mr. Blake himself stopped by to see how my meal was. The service, atmosphere, food, everything was top notch. I can’t wait to come back!
