You can’t ask for a better beer bar! The owner Aaron is an awesome dude that treats his customers like they are his pals. The beer selection here is always killer and the food is excellent! My wife and I recently attended Distribution Day and the tap list was insane! I also ordered the sticky maple gochujang shrimp. These were insane! They were large shrimp that were seasoned perfectly! My wife got the PEI mussels and they may be a new favorite when we stop in. Love everything about this place and can’t wait to go back!

We decided to visit this place after reading a review for Mac and cheese. We can confirm that this place serves one of the best mac and cheeses we’ve tried. The brussel sprouts were also a hit! Staff were warm and welcoming and we love the chill vibes!

The food is superb, the service workflow would benefit from additional staff. This is a two level pub and restaurant. First floor is bar with some limited table seating. Second floor contains the dining room and another bar. On the night of our visit, you had to hunt for the host and once seated the waitress politely informed us that she was “all alone up here” in a room holding about 60 people. We waited 45 minutes for our food on a Wednesday night during ski season.

Once the food arrived, it was outstanding. Most of the dishes have an asian-fusion component. I had salmon over a risotto cake with spicy chili oil and an herb aioli. It was unique and easily one of the best salmon plates I’ve had. The others in my party were similarly impressed with their dishes.

This isn’t an inexpensive place but the food is worth it. I’d suggest visiting on a day when they are not busy. If you walk in and see a crowd and no one is eating (as we did), you should come back another day.

Blackback pub is mostly a bar downstairs and an elevated gastro-pub upstairs.. Upstairs is very warm and inviting and the food is excellent. The service however is next level. These folks are keen to accommodate without hovering or being to ever-present. They have an extensive beer and cocktail menu and a decent wine list as well.. I find this rate, it is usually on or the other. If they offered beer flights the place would be perfect. A must visit in Waterbury

One of my favorite pubs in the world! I usually don’t review bars but the food here is so exceptional, I need to. I had the peel and eat shrimp one night and wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary. What I got was really well seasoned shrimp with a cocktail sauce that now haunts my dreams. How can cocktail sauce be so good?? I think they might put curry seasoning in it. Pair that with phenomenal service from veteran bar keeps and the best selection of craft beer in the area and you can’t lose.
Pictured are the brussel sprouts and a crab cake(?).

Great food and reliable service! Every menu item is delicious, you can’t really go wrong. This place also has a nice cozy feel too. Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area. The only downside is there are no fries (or similar) as a side, only non- house chips. Can’t really count that against the restaurant too much, however, as fryolaters are a big deal to install, operate, and ventilate. This is not feasible in every building/establishment.

We went to dinner on Saturday and we were able to be seated immediately without waiting, despite it being very busy. My fiancé ordered one of the specials and did not particularly care for the sauce; when asked how the food was, he was honest and the manager asked if we wanted it taken off our bill. My fiancé said no that’s not necessary. When the check came, the manager had comped my fiancé’s meal and my salad. Very generous and it is obvious this place cares about their customers. We will definitely be back! Thank you!

We were travelling from Boston to Montreal for business. We wanted a quick bite. We stopped because of the good ratings and we were very happy with our choice. I had to order light because I was driving. The spec tuna appetizer was perfect for me. My coworker had the chicken skepasti sandwich. It was also delicious. Thank you!

Made it here on the day/weekend they were celebrating their one year anniversary under new ownership/management. And wow is it a stellar operation! Owner was working the bar and keeping the energy high but every person working there was super friendly and helpful. Draft beer list is one of the best in town or possibly even the entire state. Food menu is also top notch with plenty of options that utilize quality local ingredients. The meatloaf sandwich was recommended and yes it was truly delicious. The shrimp were incredibly tasty, as well. Vibes can’t be beat, this is a must visit in Waterbury!

What a gem! I spent the whole time riding shotgun on I89 researching the best spots to grab dinner with the family for no reason. I should’ve just followed the advice of the internet food gods and headed straight to Blackback Pub. The food was incredible and the service was memorable. Chef Cory is doing what he loves and it shines through. Just about everything but the ketchup starts out from his bare hands. Try the Crab Rangoon Grilled Cheese….its out of this world but makes all the sense in the world. Enjoy one of the last chances to eat a fun and exciting meal before your trip into the VT mountains.
