INCREDIBLE scotch eggs that were also deviled. Heavenly experience. Our entrees were good as well but I could’ve ate 20 of these eggs instead and been happy. Very friendly and helpful service. 10/10

Stopped in at The Black Sheep Pub while visiting Alpena. The area had just gone through an ice storm and extended power outage, so the menu was understandably limited. Still, the place had a warm, local vibe—you could tell by the regulars at the bar that it’s a neighborhood favorite.
We tried the slider (which surprisingly only comes with one), fish and chips, and chili. The slider was tasty, the fish was lightly battered and absolutely delicious, and the chili was okay.

Made a motorcycle lunch run to The Black Sheep. We kicked out of with a Scotch egg and pretzel bites. I had prime dip sandwich with fries. The wife had a Blacksheep Burger. All were very good. Seems like a local hang out with lots of locals coming in for lunch and to visit. Very friendly and homey feeling. Sometimes the locals visiting with the staff asked them down a bit but not a big problem in my opinion. I would recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. PS forgot to snap a pic of the Scotch egg.

Took a little evening drive from Johannesburg to Alpena after looking at the restaurants available in town on line. Black Sheep didn’t disappoint! Steaks were prepared perfectly and the Scotch egg was delicious. So many pretzels in the appetizer basket, too! The prices were fantastic and our bartender was working hard both on the floor and behind the bar. He pours a mean 7&7! We will be back!

Giving 2.5 because no celery with the wings also the fries which are suppose to be the side had more flavor than the fried fish itself which is suppose to be the main. All and all not too bad but not a favorite

The price of drinks is very reasonable. Got the fish and chips which was tasty and a side of some fried mushrooms. I don’t really go to pubs but this is a good place to grab some food and I would go again.

It was busy for lunch on Black Friday! My mom and I went here after stopping off at a few stores. We grabbed a table near the entrance since it seemed like a “seat yourself” kind of vibe.
For drinks, my mom had the Austin Brothers Astral Shandy and I got a glass of the Ciderboys Peach Cider. The Astral shandy was nice and light and didn’t have that bitterness that a beer would have. The peach cider was delcious and sweet! My mom and I both ordered the reuben.
It did take over an hour for food to get to our table but there was very limited people working so that is probably why. I don’t know if this is a typical thing for this place so this might just be a one off incidence regarding the long wait for food. Once we did get our food, it was delicious! Usually, I take a pic of my food before eating but I was too hungry to do so this time. The reuben was amazing. Marbled rye stacked with corned beef and a thin layer of sourkraut. They served the thousand island dressing on the side which was great because then I could add my preference of the perfect amount of sauce. 11/10 meal!
I would definitely go to The Black Sheep Pub again. I haven’t had a reuben that good in years!

We enjoyed our food but didn’t get everything we ordered. It was okay, because the portions were generous so we wouldn’t have had room to eat the appetizer. The flags from Great Britain were good conversation pieces.

When I visit Alpena, I try to hit local places. I decided to visit The Black Sheep. I had a craving for potato skins but didn’t want to hit a burger joint and this place has them. There doesn’t appear to any parking except for on the street. There is a parking lot in the back but I don’t think it’s for here. I saw signs saying unauthorized vehicles would be towed, so I parked on the street. Upon my arrival, I stood in the doorway for a few minutes before being told that I could sit anywhere. There was no sign saying to sit or wait.
Once I did sit, it took a about 5 minutes for him (the same guy who told me to sit anywhere) to come to my table but it felt longer and I contemplated leaving. In his defense, he was the only one serving tables and it was busy. He showed up and took my drink order and quickly came back with my drink and then took my food order. I ordered an appetizer at 6:05, along with my entree. As of 6:32, I still had yet to receive either item. At that time, he came to the table and told me that, for some reason, my order didn’t make it to the kitchen. Five minutes later, my potato skins came out. 15 minutes later, my entree came out. I ordered the Shepherd’s Pie. It was a bit smaller than I expected but it was pretty good. He never came back to check on me but, again, he was really swamped. I feel like I could have left without paying and they wouldn’t have noticed. I was going to give this place 3 stars but given that he had ZERO help and he discounted my meal, I gave it 4 stars. I might try it again when I’m back in town.
Sorry about the potato skin photo. I was so hungry, I forgot to take the pic.
