Delicious. I had the chicken and my wife has the duck confit. Both were very good but the mashed potatoes and the fries with the dipping sauces brought it all together and elevated it above. I could have just eaten the fries and the mashed potatoes alone.

We had dinner here last night and enjoyed it, would eat here again. The pork spring roll appetizer was tasty and the bread is super yummy. My husband had the duck and I had the pork. Both were very good although my pork was a tad overcooked and not as tender as it could have been. We had the maple creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Desserts were good although the cake could have been a deeper chocolate flavor. I also ordered a lemon drop, that I didn’t finish, because it was too strong. I don’t like strong drinks and many bartenders think a strong drink is best so I’m used to drinks I don’t like therefore don’t count it against them. It’s a very good meal in a charming little spot and worth the visit.

Black Sheep Bistro (one could certainly make the case) is the best restaurant in town. It is on the more fancy side of things and the quality of food certainly matches the reasonable costs associated. The space itself it beautiful and they are dog friendly here on the patio. The food was so delicious and a fun thing to note is that every entree comes with mashed potato’s and fries (along with some amazing dipping sauces). The service was excellent here and overall this place is very much a local gem that is absolutely worth a visit if you’re in town.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,
to the local Vergennes resident who recommended The Black Sheep. Walking in you do get a French Bistro vibe. And the food! It was excellent. My husband had the cold avocado curry soup with toasted coconut, delicious, and I had the very good escargots provençale. He had the steak, medium, as he ordered, and I had the haddock with a light curry sauce. We both finished with the maple creme brûlée. Warm baguette, french fries AND garlic mashed potatoes accompany every meal as well as pleasant and efficient service. All I can add is–We made reservations for tomorrow!

We found this place on the last day of our trip… and wow, do we wish we had come here sooner. The Thai Broiled Haddock was moist and bursting with flavor, and my spouse practically licked the plate after finishing the Stuffed Pork Loin. Don’t even get me started on the mashed potatoes. Absolute perfection! The food is THAT good!
The drinks were on point: super tasty and well-made. The staff was just awesome; friendly and attentive without overdoing it. The vibe is relaxed, with a cozy indoor space and relaxed outdoor seating that made the evening even better. They are dog-friendly outside and were so kind and accomodating to our pup.
Honestly, the food here is the kind of quality you’d expect at a top-tier New York or Boston restaurant, but without the fuss, and at prices that would have us eating here every day if we lived closer.
We wrapped things up with their chocolate cake …it was rich, indulgent, and simply divine. We’re about four hours away, but coming back just for a weekend to eat here again? Easy yes.
Big love to the chef, you nailed it!

I was so excited when my meal arrived that I forgot to take a picture of it. Let me assure you, every scrap of food, every crumb and every drop was thoroughly enjoyed. We were unsure at first if the bread was free but it was. All entrees come with mashed potatoes and the best fries you’ve ever eaten – along with house made garlic and basil aiole. I ordered the salmon and my husband had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. I couldn’t believe how tender and juicy my husband’s pork was, and I loved texture of my salmon -juicy interior with an intriguing perfect crust on the exterior – giving the whole dish a multi layered texture that I loved. I had read reviews that the sauces here were particularly amazing, and they STILL exceeded our expectations. The prices are on the higher end but still felt totally fair. Great food, great service, cozy atmosphere. The only negative I can think of is that it is a little close on the seating to the other tables in my opinion… you probably don’t want to plan to have very intimate or private conversations. But, I will definitely go back and encourage all our visiting friends and family members to do the same!

The best dinner I have had in over 2000 miles!
Had the escargot- Yummy with bread. The pork dumplings with wowy sauce, and fish in a sweet coconut curry which almost ended my marriage when I suggest licking the plate!
‘Lady’ was our waitress and she knows her foods. She said she had been there for 20 years!
I’ll go back!

So happy with found the Black Sheep Bistro. We were staying in nearby Panton for a few days, and were planning to make the 50 min + drive to Burlington for dinner, when we stumbled across the sheep !. The reviews were great and absolutely true – a wonderful small bistro – indoor/outdoor and a small but really good menu. Highly recommend.
