While BlackRock Cafe has been a pretty casual, enjoyable, local, watering hole, one in which I have thoroughly enjoyed for the past 5 years, there is room for improvement.
As a lifelong vegetarian, there are extremely limited food options. No veggie burger patty options, no portobello burgers, etc. No tofu, nor vegan menu options. No fresh baked goods or bread.
Best I had offered was an omlette, hold the eggs. But, nevertheless, I had enjoyed my time there.
There are probably only a half dozen kegs, of which at least 2 are usually not working. No ciders, nothing really special from locals, such as Ola Brewery, etc.
Sierra Nevada, yeah, Paul has it. Just like Safeway…
Even Malama Market- down the road- offers special local beverages on tap from Ola and others in their “Anytime Bar” including refillable growlers for $11.50, plus a dollar off upon refill, sometimes featuring live musicians.
No Bailey’s Irish creme at BlackRock, either, sorry for the lack of that brunch treat, if you are on vacation.
Anyway, I enjoyed BR until a one-day-a-week bartender, Carley, is there, Fridays; seems she didn’t like my tallkng to the owner, Paul. I was offering a suggestion to Paul, to clean the hallway to the bathrooms, because the grease on the floors (outside of the kitchen,) for the record, is so slippery, patrons have said they have to hold onto the walls walking down the hallway to the women’s (no soap or hot water, even for employees) restroom.
My suggestion is to not wear Crocs while visiting this establishment, especially if you need to use the restroom.
If you don’t wish a spirit of Aloha, where the bartenders will change Hawaiian music to a cable TV music 70’s rock station, here ya go!

OMG!! The burgers and onion rings are sooo good here!! We stopped in because we seen a review. We definitely were not disappointed!!! We returned a few days later and enjoyed our meals again before we left the area.
Highly recommend stopping in for lunch or dinner. The breakfast looked amazing, I seen the biggest pancake being served, however we didn’t try breakfast we were there for lunch at 11am and just seen some of the breakfasts that others gad ordered.

Great food however Extremely long wait times for food… 20 minutes for them to take our order as a party of two and took over an hour… Need to hire more kitchen and serving staff… Did not acknowledge or come and follow up with us about it either

This was the best breakfast we have had on the island so far! We had a #8 pretty basic breakfast but the way they cooked it was perfect! I did not have to ask for more butter on my toast or send my bacon back to be recooked! Hands down fantastic! The wait staff are friendly and amazing!

Perfect vacation breakfast. Pancakes are as big as the plate. And tastes better than IHOP. You can get two of the pancakes with two strips of bacon for $10.95. Quaint little restaurant, I would recommend it to any age group. Even children love it here. Hats off to the chef and wait staff. We’ll done.

Such a great little cafe! Excellent customer service everyone was so sweet, kind and helpful. The food was so delicious we had to go back a second time. I loved the Ono fish sandwich
It was a nice atmosphere just a little bit dark in the back, that’s the only reason why I gave it four stars but overall it was five stars

Excellent food and friendly staff. Best Eggs Benedict I have had in a long time. Everyone loved their meals. The server kept our coffee full and was very attentive. Only complaint was the home fries were not seasoned. Parking can be limited.

Charged me twice for one drink. First charge was while I was there and paid for drink. Then days later charged me again. Not sure why and what I ordered was not what I received. The cheese steak sandwich had fried peppers etc but no cheese and the steak was lunch meat which was obviously microwaved. The bun was fresh out the freezer and soggy. Onion rings were cold and tasted old and like a refrigerator that needs cleaning. What we expected was a greasy cheese steak sub with that classic taste you’d expect from a sub shop in the Bronx. Not even close. 56$ for a lunch that an elementary school cafeteria could beat and thats not an exaggeration. The kicker though was the waiter acting like my tipping her was a criminal offense instead of asking if everything was satisfactory. Begging the question. Why not ask if we enjoyed the service and food? Why not ask why we didnt eat it.
