Popped in for a snack and coffee the girls are so friendly and polite and helpful.
The food that we had was delicious, couldn’t fault it. they also do breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinners .
I placed an order for two scones and two hot chocolates at 15:38. Shockingly, the scones did not arrive until 16:10—a 32-minute wait for something that should be simple and quick. They were delivered on one plate, and the staff member then had to return to the bar to fetch the jam, cream, and even an extra plate. After setting everything down, she asked if we needed anything else, and I had to remind her that we were still waiting for the hot chocolates. Her response—“Oh wait, I’ll get them now!”—perfectly summed up the lack of organisation.
It is very clear that the staff are inexperienced, poorly trained, and not being supported to deliver even a basic standard of service. This level of inefficiency and inattentiveness does absolutely no justice to such a beautiful, historic building.
The general environment didn’t help either: tissues shoved under table legs to stop them wobbling, and multiple uncleared tables left untouched while staff walked past carrying nothing. It created an impression of careless management and a complete absence of pride in customer service.
Overall, the visit was a major let-down. Black Pool Mill has enormous potential, but the current service standards are simply unacceptable.
We were shown to our table by a polite and helpful member of staff and seated in a comfortable room off the main dining area (party of 7). Another member of staff was shortly with us to take orders for drinks and hand out menus.
We chose to have a main course and dessert and the drinks and food arrived in good time.
The food was excellent, hot and just the right size portions. The wait in between courses was just right, giving us time to look forward to dessert. The price was reasonable for the food and all in all, a very good experience.
Will definitely be visiting here again, as we would like to try the Sunday lunch menu and maybe the evening meals or afternoon tea. Thanks for a lovely dining experience
The menu was limited but the Crab Salad sounded delicious as I was looking for a healthy alternative as my friends were all having the afternoon tea.
The crab salad arrived and one of my friends asked if it was a starter or a light bite, but I’m one for quality over quantity and at £22 for my lunch, I felt a tad underwhelmed.
My first 3 forks of crab found shell and cartilage in, this continued and I think I had 10 ‘bits’ at least. I totally get that it’s a fresh and natural product, which I often choose when eating out, but I have never had this much in one meal. This really did spoil the meal for me but I was with company and as there was NO table check during the meal, I told one of the restaurant team about the issue when the table was cleared of plates. The member if staff said that they would tell the kitchen and that was that.
Although there seemed be plenty of staff, there seem to be not enough staff… it’s such a shame because this venue could be so much more…
The food itself was delicious and very filling, and the drinks and cocktails were excellent and exotic – I myself had a virgin espresso martini.
Just to be really harsh there was a slight error where I was given the wrong drink and left waiting for a little while, but other than that it made a perfect Christmas Day lunch and couldn’t have been better, hence why I confidently award the Black Pool Mill 5 stars.
