Black Lion is a gem for anyone who takes their coffee seriously. The shop roaster sits right out front, and you can tell they’re roasting on site in small batches. You can buy bags of single-origin, ethically sourced beans that were roasted only days ago,
which is a huge plus if you brew espresso at home. There’s something special about a local cafe that puts that level of care into their product instead of just reselling commercial beans. Beyond the coffee, the staff is friendly, the service is great, and
the space has a cozy vibe that makes it perfect for getting some work done. Highly recommend supporting this small local business.

Finally I can tell I found the best coffee in the US! Wait a second! One of the best coffees in the world! This location is absolutely beautiful! The staff are friendly and the sweets are delicious! They do roast and sell their signature coffee beans and what I also love about this cafe place is the music always smooth and calm and doesn’t irritate your peace or focus if you rereading or just working on your computer. We are so happy to find this hidden gem! Please give it a try! You won’t be disappointed I promise!

Cozy café vibes! The coffee is delicious, the space has plenty of comfortable seating options, and the service is friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot to work, relax, or catch up with friends.
The only thing I’d love to see is a slightly larger food selection. When I visited in the afternoon, there were just a few pastries (muffins and croissants), but it’s possible there are more options earlier in the day.
Either way, this was a great find—and I’ll definitely be coming back for the yummy coffee whenever I’m in the area!

I’ve had a few meetings at The Black Lion and have enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere and ability to have a professional conversation. The café is clean, the staff staff are nice, it is easy to find parking, and the coffee is very good. I enjoy going there when in the Travaille Square area.

I have been coming to Black Lion for years, I love the coffee, and I have always had a great deal of respect for the owner. However, I can no longer ignore the appalling decline in service.
The lady behind the counter is incredibly rude and clearly does not want to be there. After waiting a significant amount of time just to be acknowledged, I was met with zero greeting or eye contact. When my order was made incorrectly, she refused to take responsibility, blamed me for the error, and—most shockingly—snapped her fingers at me to demand I pay the price difference for the fix.
I witnessed her treating other customers with the same level of contempt. It is deeply disappointing to see a business I used to recommend to everyone be brought down by such unprofessionalism.

Absolutely love this place! Hands down the best coffee in the area—rich, smooth, and so flavorful. You can really taste the difference because they roast their own signature beans, and it makes every cup exceptional. The staff are warm, welcoming, and so kind, which makes the whole experience even better. I’m thrilled to have discovered this gem, and it has quickly become my new favorite spot. My girlfriend and I now look forward to making it our regular weekly meeting place—it’s that good!

Black Lion Cafe was a major disappointment. The coffee was severely over-roasted to the point of tasting burnt and bitter. Even worse, they managed to scorch the milk as well, which is hard to do. The end result was a latte that was nearly undrinkable.
The service didn’t help matters either, inattentive and unwelcoming, which made the whole experience even more frustrating.
I’m not typically a fan of chain coffee shops, but I have to be honest: I’d choose Starbucks over this any day. At least there you know what you’re getting, and it won’t taste like charcoal.
Black Lion Cafe needs to seriously reconsider their coffee roasting process and barista training. Until they do, I can’t recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent cup of coffee.
