Ambiance is excellent, cozy, and relaxing. They offer a nice selection of tea, but very limited black tea options. Besides one friendly girl at the register, the rest of the staff could be more welcoming—it felt a bit dull behind the counter. You can ask them to warm up your croissant or any pastry, which is a nice touch.

Very nice location, great service too! Glad we stopped by because the people serving you are very kind and there was a wide variety of different sweets and coffee drinks. There are many different seats and it’s a great place to work. The mango cake was moist and had a great frosting. The tea cookies were okay. They were slightly chewy and the jam in the middle made it difficult to break a part, though this was just a minor issue. Overall impressed and looking forward to coming back.

Walking into Black Lion Coffee feels like stepping into that friend’s living room who somehow owns six different types of throw pillows but still makes it look chic. The atmosphere is so relaxed that even your to-do list will quietly close itself and take a seat.
The coffee? Bold enough to make you believe you could start a side hustle before lunch, smooth enough to make you forget you’ve been starting a side hustle. And let’s talk pastries: they have so many options it’s less of a café and more of a carb-based art gallery.
Croissants, muffins, tarts, and if it’s flaky or sugary, it’s here, probably whispering your name.

A comfortable, spacious, well-appointed coffee shop where everyone not only feels welcome but celebrated. The number of languages, spoken and otherwise, you can encounter on a visit excites–it is possible for us all to come together! The food is just fine, and the service friendly, welcoming and attentive. It leaves a Starbucks feeling so stale and impersonal. While I don’t drink coffee, I so enjoy my chai latte when I stop in for my study/work visits.

Black Lion Cafe in Downtown Silver Spring is hands down one of the best cafés in the entire country. I don’t think you’ll find a cooler place that brings together incredible teas, great vibes, friendly (and diverse) people, and a comfortable, inspiring environment all in one.
The tea selection is top-tier, the atmosphere is creative and calm, Wifi is STRONG, and they offer a range of delicious pastries, including vegan options for those of us who are plant-based.
I live in DC and regularly drive 30–45 minutes just to come here. It’s the place where I feel inspired to do my best work and where I’ve pushed through some challenging days when I didn’t want to open my laptop but knew I needed to. There’s something special about the energy here.
Huge shoutout to Simon for always being helpful and focused on providing excellent service. Grateful that those of us in the DMV get the chance to experience a place like Black Lion. Truly one of a kind.

Black Lion Cafe is such a gem! The coffee is rich and flavorful, and you can really tell they take pride in serving authentic Ethiopian coffee. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and perfect whether you want to catch up with friends or just relax with a cup of coffee. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the service always feels genuine.

Really place with a cozy atmosphere and beautiful decor. However, the food and coffee was…meh. I got what was supposed to be fluffy pancake but the bottom was hard. It tasted like they poured a gallon of oil in it, hence why it was hard. Tasted awful. The veggie omlette was pretty good though. The coffee was a bit bitter. I added vanilla to a latte and tasted absolutely no vanilla. I didnt smell it either. This is the second time ordering here and both times the food was lacking. The first time the coffee was great though. So Im guessing consistency is the issue here
