I have been coming in here for years. The Bar and Food has always been great! They have a great choice of Wines, Bourbon, Whiskey, and Beer. The food is great. A lot of house favorites. Salmon to Burgers you can’t go wrong, but so many great options! I have not had a bad meal here. FYI: You can sit at the Bar if they are busy. Bartenders are great here!

I AM PURELY GIVEN THIS REVIEW A 4 ON THE EXCELLENT SERVICE GIVEN BY WAITER CHRIS.
Of the four meals we had, the starters and the dessert they ran from above average to men.
The chicken was moist but the skin was overcooked. The burger was tasty but undercooked. The ratio of lamb to vegetables heavily favored vegetables. The highlight of the meals was the best short rib I have. ever had. The beef was fork tender with a perfect tenderness. A silky feeling in the mouth.
The lemon curd cheese cake was also lovely. A very nice silky texture.
Hats off to the bar tender for pouring a strong drink.

Honestly I expected better food from such a fancy place. The service wasn’t great… my husband liked his steak but he’s also NEVER met a steak he didn’t like… our server forgot about us frequently.. took forever to get our drinks… I hope it was just a bad night for them but this is just my honest first impression. The atmosphere was nice.. awesome decor! Beautiful building! The band was great and we did enjoy the patio! Give it a shot… you might have a better experience!

I went on a Saturday night with a friend around 8 PM, I loved the holiday decor here and our server was very friendly! In my opinion, the food is a bit overpriced for what it is. The Golden Lamb Farms Platter was interesting, the ham and peaches were great. The short rib grilled cheese was good, and the tomato bisque was a little below average for my taste.

When I was a kid one of the places my folks liked to stop when we were headed to Cincinnati and points south was The Golden Lamb. We had an opportunity to see if it was still as good as I remember and I have to say, it was better! The Black Horse Tavern (the restaurant inside The Golden Lamb) is NOT a “bar” it is an old style coaching inn or early American tavern. Although there is no more family style service I remember from my childhood, there is an upscale farm to table and locally sourced menu with some great vegetarian entree options (that are NOT *just salads*) as well. Hence, I can recommend it to my entire family and not just the meat eaters. You can also get burgers and sandwiches. In short, the food was amazing. Best fried chicken since the Smithville Inn closed – we tried the 1/4 light and the 1/4 dark just to be sure. The special mushroom bisque was also really good. There is a full bar available with cocktail specialties, local beers and a wine list. Our service was attentively and respectfully provided by Joshua who gets 5 stars for service and for honesty. The only fly in the ointment was the sad ending to a perfect meal — the “dessert topping” on the gelato was NOT real whipped cream! (Joshua was surprised, too!) It wasn’t even Reddi-wip (which is at least a dairy product). It was essentially “cool whip in a can”. After all the trouble to make a flawless meal with real ingredients, WHY would you pinch this penny? Sad to leave the final taste in your diner’s mouths a lump of fat. The inn itself has been beautifully maintained and still has rooms available for hire. Would definitely return and recommend.
