Reviews
Black Hog offers a straightforward dining experience in a tidy setting with friendly service and a variety of BBQ options.
Atmosphere: 5.3/10
The establishment is somewhat basic but clean, featuring an open kitchen viewable through a window. The layout is spacious, accommodating with an uncomplicated, diner-friendly vibe.
Service: 6.1/10
Service at Black Hog is commendable; staff members are welcoming and efficient. The menu is easy to navigate, enhancing the overall dining experience. Meals are delivered timely, and complimentary water is a thoughtful touch.
Arkansas Brisket: 6.9/10
Flavorful and well-prepared, the brisket is boldly seasoned with sweet and spicy notes. It’s best enjoyed with a side of bread to temper its robustness.
Mac n Cheese: 5.1/10
This side dish is basic, neither disappointing nor impressive.
Baked Beans: 5.1/10
Similarly unremarkable, the baked beans are standard fare.
Bacon Cheese Burger: 5.4/10
The burger is adequately prepared with fresh vegetables and a decent patty, though the bun is average and the price slightly high for what is offered.
To everyone, I would say this spot is definitely worth checking out. I was in the mood for BBQ and the food looked and smelled delicious.
There were 4 of us in our party. We ordered: 1lb TX brisket, 1lb AK brisket, Full rack of ribs, 8 wings, collards and coleslaw.
We each liked a different item for different reasons but the important thing was, it was all great! The Ribs were my favorite (dry rub)
The slaw with the burnt ends was soooo good!
I would definitely come back here.
The ham was good, slightly salty but good. The mac and cheese was okay, it wasn’t the best I had but not the worst. The cornbread was the best part of this meal.
Also, the peach cobbler wasn’t that great, it tasted very dough like. In my opinion for the price of food, the portion size was skimp as well. I would only eat here again if I wasn’t paying for it.
Overall 3/5
Upon arrival, the knowledgeable and passionate staff members made me feel reassured that I was going to be indulging in something great. Their enthusiasm for their offerings was contagious, compelling me to try the 8-count dry rub wings. At each table, they conveniently provide a variety of house-made sauces: KC BBQ, SC Mustard, MD Original, and NC Vinegar. Although all the sauces complemented the wings perfectly, the MD Original stood out with its unique flavor.
For my entrée, I opted for the Texas Beef Brisket, accompanied by coleslaw and fries. The coleslaw was crunchy, the fries were perfectly seasoned, and the brisket was exceptionally tender—each bite was flawless.
Finishing my meal, I was satisfyingly full and already planning my next visit. The Black Hog isn’t just about great food; they also host events, with trivia nights on Mondays and rib and wing specials on Tuesdays.
If you’re in the mood for authentic, delicious barbecue and a welcoming atmosphere, I highly recommend The Black Hog. It’s a spot that has quickly earned a place on my go-to list for great eats. I wish them nothing but success and look forward to many more tasty visits.
Like damn son. It was good. Ribs were eh, and that over sauced stuff wasn’t there for me. But that brisket slapped.
I got the 4 ribs – Yum and added brisket, YUM! The collard greens and mac n cheese was perfect and the corn bread as well.
I feel like combined everything was balanced. I really enjoyed it and will be back when I need my BBQ fix.
I spent almost 30 I believe but there is no way that can eat thid all in one sitting. This will feed me twice or three times lol.
The sides are all excellent, after having been there a number of times I’ve tried them all. Do yourself a favor and try the mustard bbq sauce with the smoked sausage.
Parking is easy, plenty available just outside the restaurant. Highly recommend.
