The Bakery is a gem to be had by those fortunate enough to taste the amazing pastries and baked goods the owner offers. I could not get enough (went every day I stayed) of the croissants and butter horns that paired perfectly with the locally roasted coffee. The Everything Croissant tantalizes the taste buds with an enticing butter taste and the flakiness was perfection. Black Granary – The Bakery of Big Sandy offers such an amazing treat and I can’t wait to go back.

Great little stop off at Big Sandy MT… small bump in the road but very friendly folks. Had a craving for a sticky bum, but they had sold them all before i arrived. 🙁 I did have a great homemade roll and some OJ to start my day.
Wonderful little place to grab a homemade treat…

Great bakery in small town. Huge dining area. I hear great things about the gravy and biscuits and sweet rolls but had heart set on crescents for lunch sandwiches. Then pre-ordered some special.breads mmmm. Picked up my french breads and sundried tomato twist. Delicious true french bread. Two loaves disappeared at dinner. Crusty exterior soft and chewy centers perfect.

What a great space; clean and refreshing with beautiful local art on the walls. The pastries are so good, I couldn’t be bothered to take a picture before devouring them. Such a gem in Big Sandy!

Awesome little bakery that is well worth making the trip for. This isn’t a mass-produced, heavily sugared, overly-glazed, frozen fruit kind of bakery. This is a taste-every–ingredient, made fresh, your-mouth-thanks-you kind of place. I loved it. I tried four different things and every one was better than the last. Do yourself a great, great big favor and, whenever you’re anywhere near Big Sandy, get into the Black Granary and treat yourself to something that’s hard to find these days–a genuine, baked-with-love, tasty bakery.

great food / farm to table / family owned / friendly
We chanced on this bakery on our way out of the American Prairie Reserve (four remarkable days of hiking and viewing wildlife including elk, bison, prairie dogs, and beavers). The Bakery became our unexpected treat at the end of the trip. It is owned and operated by a friendly local farming family who feature farm-to-table ingredients when possible. And incredible photography of the upper Missouri landscape lines the walls. The fresh from the oven croissants were better than any in our home area.

Excellent service! Quick and very clean. Very friendly staff, everyone working had a smile on their faces. The breakfast was delicious and the Chai Latte was top notch. Most definitely the best I’ve had. I can’t wait to make it back.
