Very fun experience! The dessert was my favorite part! Everything was delicious and the atmosphere is amazing! The crab cakes weren’t my personal favorite but my mom loved them! Will definitely be back.

I was super excited to try this place. I went yesterday 1/15/26 for restaurant week. I knew they would be busy so I made reservations. They allowed me to make a reservation at 9pm and that was the exact time they closed. I called and they said they would be accommodating and if I wanted to come a little early that would be fine too. I showed up at 830pm. Upon arrival I waited for a while until I found my party. As I sat down there was a restaurant week menu and nothing else. So you are “forced” to eat what they have available. Once our waitress came to the table I enquired about other menu items and she simple said no because they cook the food in big batches. Also you cant modify anything. It took about 20 minutes to get our batch food and you could most definitely tell they food had been sitting because it wasn’t even luke warm. I relieved a jerk bao bun. On the second course they described a salad with spinach, cheese, blueberries, raspberries and candied walnuts. I received spinach with cheese. We had to flag down a waitress to ask what happened to the other components of the salad. We were brought out blueberries and walnuts… when we got to the main entrée I got the chicken and sausage dish. The rice was mushy and cold, along with my one piece of chicken. Because I dont eat pork and you couldn’t make any modifications. Also the brussel sprouts were cold and mushy. My biggest complaint is that my son’s salmon came out very undercooked. When I finally seen our waitress and informed her that his food was too undercooked for him to consume. She said “thats how it’s supposed to be cooked or it will be dry”. Im thinking how are you going to argue with me about the cook of food I want my kid to consume. At this point I asked for the check and skipped dessert. No discount and I most definitely didn’t want to be disappointed about the other big batch menu items. $218 and some change later and all I ate was a jerk bao bun. Plus the $10 tip.

We love this place! We came here for restaurant week and enjoyed every bite! I had the crab cake, the bisque, the salmon and the upsidedown cake. Crab cake was perfect with just a little bite to it! The crab bisque was great and hearty and warm on a cold day like today! So it hit the spot. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the broth or sauce if you will on. It was light but flavorful and pit just the right spots. Overall it was a phenomenal experience and all the food was really great. The dessert was a red velvet pineapple upside down cake and it was the exact right temperature and exact right consistency. The flavors all hit like they were supposed to little touches of blueberry and powdered sugar. Just made it all nice. The presentation of everything was spectacular and gave it a really fine dining quality to it. But that wasn’t the best part of the meal. The best part was Terry at our server. She was incredible. Paced a meal correctly. Gave awesome advice on food and in general was an absolute delight to speak with. She made the meal top notch. 10 out of 10 would go back and make sure that we sit in her section. Thank you to that entire establishment for a great dinner

Tried this place for restaurant week. They were obviously not prepared for restaurant week. To me it seemed that they overbooked everything. They had a $65 4 course dinner menu. Horrible service. Had a reservation for 7:30 but did not sit at a table until 8:30. Sat at the table for 30 minutes before we even ordered our food. Our waiter said to us as we sat down that she was going to handle our drinks due to us waiting for such a long time but when we got the bill she had included the drinks. She then tried to say that she did not say that but then remembered what she said and took the drinks off. The portions were horrible for the price we paid. Food was cold at times and took forever to come out. The butternut squash bisque was cold. My friend had to reorder and all they did was warm it up. All the way around not a good experience. I would not recommend to try this place.

Update: it’s 1:25pm 01/14 the next day after. I just got off the phone with the restaurant. I was calling to complain about my night and how the service was. I spoke with a manager by the name of Mary. At least that’s what she told me her name was. She told me basically it was my fault the restaurant was busy and they had nowhere to sit me. She didn’t want to hear about my complaint and rushed me off the phone. All in all they were not prepared for restaurant week. Service was horrible and when speaking with a manager(Mary) the next day I was still disappointed with her response. Horrible horrible experience

We went last night for restaurant week and WOW is all I can say! Our server Terry was a ray of sunshine on a dreary winter evening . She was helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. I had the jerk bao bun to start and the bao was steamed PERFECTLY! It was soft and fluffy with a subtle heat. The winter salad was dressed perfectly with beautifully roasted beets. The absolute star of the show was the braised short ribs. Everything about this dish was perfect. We will absolutely be returning.

This is the 2nd time I’ve went to this restaurant, and I could tell how they felt about me (an American black woman) versus the white customers. My first experience was prior to the name change and it was just like last nights experience. I went again on my bday after the change and it was awesome. TikTok my whole experience and gave them a shout out. So I thought I was safe. Last night I went during restaurant week literally on a humbug. I normally would get an appetizer, cocktail and leave. I had to order all of my food at once, the $65, 4 course meal. I sat at the bar which means the staff was constantly in my face but overlooking me. I had to order and wait for 4 items. Restaurant week my ass!!! Everything took forever and I don’t understand, why my shit was on back order, when it’s only 4 options on the entre list. My first was a small crab cake I ate rather fast cause it was small. I was never offered explained or told about the rum and I was literally sitting at the rum bar. I finally asked for the rest to go. That’s 3 items, they come bk with 1 to go box. I watched them damn near run to patronize everyone else as I waited forever for everything. Idc how many times you change your name if the service is always bad. The food was cool but the cake was hard and old so I didn’t eat it

Tell Uncle Ben to come out the kitchen. Not impressed at all. Looking at the pictures and reading the reviews one would think the food is about to be exquisite…. Wrong. I had the Chicken Jambalaya and my guy had the Braised Oxtails. The chicken jambalaya tasted like Uncle Ben straight out the box with some tomatoes, bell peppers, and sausage tossed in. No real, authentic, or cultural flavor to it at all. Not to mention it was warm not hot as if though it just came out the skillet more like it’s been sitting in the kitchen in a pot waiting for somebody to order it SMH. My guys oxtails was a disgrace. He had one and a half oxtails which came out warm as if though they’ve been sitting in the kitchen, waiting to be ordered and served, had no real flavor to them, and were a bit tough considering they were supposed to be braised. His mushroom rice was warm not hot as if though it had been sitting waiting to be served to somebody and not made to order. The only things tasty about the whole experience was the drinks. Not to mention the waiter for the other table continued to bump my chair all night long with no apology or care given. To top it off our waiter knew that the food and experience sucked because she mentioned that she knew we weren’t going to order anything extra so there was no need to even ask LOL! Overall, the experience sucked, the food sucked, and it’s definitely not on the go back list. But I felt like we should’ve known because for a Saturday night it was extremely empty.

The way the staff immediately greeted us with warm smiling faces was an instant treat. Especially our server, Terri! As an appetizer, we had the jerk chicken bao. I cannot stress this enough, you have to try it. The combination of flavors are absolutely explosive! My wife ordered the shrimp tibs with the red lentils, and I ordered the shekla tibs with collard greens.
My wife loved her lentils, and they spices with her shrimp tibs!
I thought the collard greens were done to perfection, and could not love my choice of the shekla tibs any more.
If you are in or visiting the Kansas City area, this place is a must try!!

First time customers and we had no idea what to expect. We were impressed! The decor was unique and inviting. Seating was very comfortable. The staff was warm and welcoming. A special shout-out to our server, Terri! She was phenomenal!! The food was incredible and the presentation was spot on. The menu was expensive with many options for every diet. My husband said his baby back ribs were meaty and amazing, and the mac & cheese may have been the best he has ever had…. Trust me, he has had a lot of mac & cheese in his lifetime! My seafood duo was wonderful. The salmon, shrimp and vegetables were cooked to perfection. We are excited to return to try something new, and we hope Terri is there to serve us!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 10/10 – Best Mussels I’ve Ever Had!

Black Garlic in Kansas City is absolutely amazing. The mussels were hands down the best I’ve ever had — perfectly cooked, flavorful, and fresh. The red snapper was fried to perfection with the ideal crisp on the outside and tender inside.

The oxtail was cooked perfectly — fall-off-the-bone tender and rich in flavor. The jerk chicken was extra tasty with just the right kick. And the mac and cheese? The seasoning was EVERYTHING. Creamy, flavorful, and unforgettable.

To top it off, the drink selection was perfect. Overall, just an incredible dining experience from start to finish. I will definitely be back!
