Got a chance to try several different options on their menu and although everything was pretty good there was definitely a few things that stood out. For starters, that smash burger was absolutely excellent and would alone bring me back. The duck burger on the other hand was pretty good but in comparison just couldn’t outdo the beef in my opinion. The smoked chicken was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend. Waffle fries were solid although very crunchy if that’s not really your thing. Caesar salad was top notch and a welcome of some greens with all the meat! We also tried the pork chop and pork bellly both were excellent. The only real miss was the grilled oysters, definitely skip those and go for the classic. Overall an excellent spot with a nice vibe and great service!

Everything from start to finish was amazing. Went for a birthday celebration. We ordered slowly as we wanted to just have a long celebration and try a bunch of different things on the menu. The chips and egg were such a fun concept and delicious. The pierogies were the best I’ve ever had. And the hanger steak was perfectly cooked and the crispy layered potato cubes were a nice touch. Also, have you ever had sesame seed ice cream? I hadn’t, but it was so unique and incredible. We will definitely be back.

What a brunch gem! From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place takes pride in what they do. The Duck burger and loaded hash browns were outstanding – you can taste the quality of the locally-sourced ingredients in every component. They work with several farms in the area and it really shows in the freshness and flavor of everything. Service was excellent throughout our meal; our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and had great timing. The atmosphere hits that sweet spot of being polished but not stuffy. It’s the kind of place where you can have a business lunch or celebrate an anniversary and feel equally comfortable, (or bring a semi feral toddler to run laps around the patio). Highly recommend!

I arrived for dinner at 8:15 and the restaurant closes at 9:00 so I was thankful Black Duck was able to seat our party of 5 (my wife and three kids)

Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant. The food was fantastic, but I was a little disappointed with the level of service at a fairly expensive restaurant. I know restaurants make money on alcohol and my wife ordered a glass of wine, but I stuck with water. I think he may have given me a dirty and disappointed look for not ordering alcohol. Oh well.

As I type this review, it’s 9:34 and our family is the only patrons left in this restaurant. Okay, our server totally forgot about us.

Anyhow, great food, but don’t expect top notch service. Pretty disappointed with really crappy service.

I would highly recommend the food, but unfortunately I will not be back here because of spending $175 with bad service.

••I am adding a followup to my review after going home. My wife and oldest son agree with my review of bad service. After receiving our meal, the server never came back to check on us to see if everything was okay- which it was, but it would have been kind to ask. At 9:35 pm, the bartender actually came to ask about boxes for leftovers. We coincidentally had dinner on Black Duck’s one year anniversary. Yay to them. I just hope your experience is different than mine because the food is fantastic, but the bad service ruined it for me.

Solid food and cocktails. Had beef tartare, oysters, caesar salad with smoked whitefish, flat iron steak, and the duck burger, all of which were very good. The corn cake and corn ice cream were a slight miss, but overall everything was above average.

Crazy! Minneapolis probably top 5 restaurants. Food was outstanding. I tried the oysters raw, and grilled. My favorite was the grilled one because I was not expecting the flavor and sauce. Both were delicious. I also got the smashed burger which was delicious. The beef patty was cooked perfect and the flavor was very good. I tried the pork belly as well and the sauce was very good. I tried the flat iron steak and it was cooked perfectly. I loved that it was very good quality. Service was lovely and the location is very pretty. No loud music, relaxing place. At the end we got the cheesecake and well you guys go and try it for yourself. I’m definitely coming back.

Very excited to see a new restaurant within walking distance of home. They renovated the building beautifully! The interior is clean, bright, big windows, seating spread out.

The service was not good. From seating to walk walking out the door, we were there 90 minutes. Most of the time was waiting for the server to attend to us. She did warn us that small plates would come right away and entrees later, but that space between was over 30 minutes. Definitely not a restaurant for an hour in and out meal.

The food was tasty, flavorful, and savory. Nothing that I’m excited to go back and eat again. We tried many different things including the smash burgers (split in half and shared). We both agreed the duck burger was far more savory than the beef burger. Caesar salad was notable – flaked fish with a creamy dressing. Very good.

Prices were exceptionally high. The menu was transparent in saying extra fees are included in food prices. I appreciate that AND it’s unusual for that level of honesty which is something to adjust to. Really the way more businesses need to go and then it becomes normalized to expect high prices to provide fair wages to staff. Our bill for two people, three drinks and five plates was $160.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience. I don’t think Black Duck will be a new haunt for me.

A quiet super star! With all the new places popping up in Northeast, this one hasn’t had the same press. We bellied up to the bar on a Thursday evening and dug into the surprisingly fun and exotic cocktail menu. The new Patogonia cocktail stole the show. The food we ordered all did a dance between decadent and delicate – thin wisps of house cut potato chips, tossed in truffle and a soft boiled egg, paper thin layers of mushroom terrine, smothered in a cream sauce with onion crisps, perfectly crafted potato periogi, sprinkled with chives, accompanied with a side of sour cream.
Very yummy. The bartender knew his stuff and the staff was very warm and friendly.

Always a wonderful experience at Black Duck. Most recently visited before seeing a play at the Ritz Theater. There were three of us and we shared a beautiful charred cabbage plate to start. Then we each enjoyed a sandwich & fries – the Duck Burger was incredible. Don’t skip the cocktail menu! Even my gluten & dairy free sister loved it.
