In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. Enjoy your meal in our family-friendly, cabin-themed diner with our welcoming staff or order to enjoy in the comfort of your home.
Easygoing chain serving familiar all-day comfort food & desserts in a woodsy setting.

Black Bear Diner is a big, welcoming place that’s open late, which makes it super convenient. The prices are reasonable, and the food quality is generally very good. The slow-cooked beef sandwich was tasty, and we enjoyed our meal overall. The chicken tenders were a little dry, and the crispy coating was a bit thick and seemed to absorb too much oil but overall, it was a good experience and a nice spot for a relaxed dinner.

Had Liz as my server…as I did last time I was here. She is hard working, knows the menu by heart, multitasks and makes every patron feel special.
Im a breakfast/diner person so I find Black Bear Diner perfect for me. My food was straight forward and perfectly prepared.
Note: Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley are small towns and, as such, have small employment pools. Always best to be patient and kind when visiting here especially on Holidays. ✌ ☮️

Liz was our server and the service was amazing! We came here with a group after our previous dining option fell through but this place was way better for us. Generous portions; they nail all the diner classics. Our server Liz was super responsive and quick on her feet. Overall great service, fast delivery, and delicious

I came here after lunch, so the restaurant wasn’t busy.
Still, the service was a bit slow.
There’s another branch near my home, so I come here pretty often.
The food is decent and consistent, but nothing really stands out.
Overall, it’s an average spot.

I was greeted fast the service was amazing. There was so many options I didn’t know what to get. So I asked my waitress Liz and she recommended the California bacon Benedict With loaded hash brown. Which was 100% on spot!!! I didn’t wait long for my food. Liz checked up on me and my buddy frequently even though she was very busy. 10/10 would recommend!!!

Absolutely loved Shawna. She had truly wonderful service. She was funny and so super sweet. The helpings were massive but perfect, and the food was absolutely delicious. I got the Volcano, and the presentation was so adorable. Highly recommend

Sadly, this location is going downhill. The first thing I noticed when we parked was that their county inspection score dropped to a “B.” The last time we were there was about a year ago and we can see a big change. Broken shutters in the window, trash on the floor, right next to the dust pan. The men’s restroom had paper towels balled up all over the floor. There was a sign that read, “If our restroom needs attention, please let the staff know.” REALLY!? Isn’t it the manager who should be checking? When our server came to the table she said, “I’m sorry, but I am the only one working.” (We didn’t even say anything) No greeting or anything to make us feel welcomed. She didn’t do a bad job. The service was ok. They have cut back on the portions of food and it isn’t as good tasting as it used to be. Not to mention, a $47 bill for breakfast, when we can go next door and get the same items for $6 each ($12 + tax). So, less than half the price and for better food with an “A” rating. I want to say positive things about Black Bear, Diner, but it was not the case.

We ordered a Benedict and a French toast, and both were absolutely delicious! Our server, Liz, was especially kind and attentive, which made the experience even better. This is the second Black Bear Diner we’ve visited, and I can confidently say you’ll get one of the most amazing breakfasts here every time. Highly recommended!
