In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. Enjoy your meal in our family-friendly, cabin-themed diner with our welcoming staff or order to enjoy in the comfort of your home.
Easygoing chain serving familiar all-day comfort food & desserts in a woodsy setting.

The service was great! I did not enjoy my meal because of all the unsupervised children running all over the place. I really think management should do something about all these kids running around without their parents. These kids were screaming!

Fantastic Black Bear Diner!
I drive from Los Angeles to Sacramento frequently and we always stop at a Black Bear Diner when we break for food. This was our first time at the Turlock location and it was Great! Fantastic service, slightly better food preparation than normal as well. Lots of space, very clean, and easy to get to from the freeway with easy access back to the road.

Food was hit & miss. Didn’t motivate us to return sadly. Pros: garlic toast was amazing! Huckleberry lemonade was delicious. Meatloaf & onion rings were good. Cons: country gravy was “gluey”, baked potato was hard (not properly cooked) and cold, Mac & cheese tasted like packet mix & chili tasted like a can of staggs, coleslaw was drowning in sauce. Service was excellent, we were waiting outside for a ride and our server went out of her way to bring out my unfinished huckleberry lemonade in a takeaway cup without me even asking for it!!!

We hadn’t even sat down at our table and our waitress wanted to our drink orders. When my coffee did arrive, it was cold. There were tables on both sides of ours that had not been cleaned. They were not busy. There was only two other tables besides ours young staff on board not attentive at all. An older gentleman was at a laptop at the back of this restaurant. If he was the manager, he was not paying attention to what was going on. My husband had the pot pie and the macaroni and cheese, and it lacked Flavor and was cold. My fish and chips the fries were so salty. We’ve been there for Breakfast and the food was good. Definitely looks like they have less customers.

The poor person had to seat people besides take orders and be the cashier. All in all we didn’t have any problems with the service except having to wait a few minutes just to order our drinks. Which we were a party of 6 with two little kids.

Took my mother here after finishing up some errands and she wanted to eat breakfast. Luckily this is right next, well across the street, to Costco so it was an easy trip to go in. The food that we ordered came out great for moms breakfast, however, my order was messed up. I ordered the BLT on wheat bread but I got it in sourdough, I don’t care much and still ate it. The service was friendly and the restaurant itself is nice, clean, and organized. Will come again whenever we are in the area once more.

11/16/25 around 3:30-4 p.m. Music blaring when you walk in. Took forever for our waitress to come take our order. I ordered little less dinner pot roast. Asked for the mashed potatoes and gravy on a separate plate. It came on the same plate as my pot roast. My pot roast, gravy, and mashed potatoes were cold. I don’t know if they sat or if the cook did not heat up the dinner enough. My husband ordered the big bacon breakfast. His bacon was raw and flimsy, potatoes were hard, he asked for over medium eggs and received fried. Disappointing. This is the very first black bear diner we have been to that the food was completely disappointing. I asked for my dinner to be taken off the tag. It should have been both dinners.

Every time we go there, we are satisfied with the food the service and the price!
If we have to choose a Diner it would be Black Bear!
Have been to Dennys for many years and IHOP and it doesn’t come close to be as good tasting, the serving size of food you get in every plate is big, the customer service provided is great and We love the prices for the food!
I recommend their Blackened Salmon, tri-tip 3 meal course, Burgers are huge and delicious, their sweet potato fries are delicious too!
The list goes on and on
Their Desserts are rustic and fulfilling. You will not regret your dollar or your tastebuds with Black Bear Diner!

I must say this restaurant was great, good food, excellent workers especially a young gentleman named Tanner. When we walked in he greeted us with a big smile and constantly making sure we had everything we needed he had such a great attitude. This says a lot about the manager and all the great people that work there. Keep up the good work and thank you.
