In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. Enjoy your meal in our family-friendly, cabin-themed diner with our welcoming staff or order to enjoy in the comfort of your home.

The Food:
Salmon: Overcooked and incredibly dry.
Broccoli: Mushy, soggy, and completely unappetizing.
Chicken: No flavor or seasoning whatsoever.
Beans with Bacon: Had an awful taste—we couldn’t even eat them.
The Service:
To make matters worse, the customer service was not good. The staff seemed uninterested and unhelpful, making us feel more like an inconvenience than guests.
I know how good Black Bear Diner can be, but this specific location missed the mark in every category. I won’t be coming back to this one.
Later, another staff member (a younger man with a beard) came instead, and he was polite and helpful. When I asked again about sitting by the window, he kindly moved us there without any problem. His professionalism was appreciated, but it highlighted the poor attitude of the first staff member who seemed dismissive.
During our meal, we noticed other customers arriving after us who were seated immediately at window tables without having to wait at all. This inconsistency in treatment made us feel singled out and disrespected, and it came across as discriminatory.
Overall, while the food was good, the service left a very negative impression. Unless the staff attitude and fairness in seating are improved, I would not consider coming back or recommending this location.
The steak had no color and was also a cheap touch cut for being a new york steak. It also did not have any flavor.
The fries came out cold and soggy also with no seasoning.
The salad was the only decent thing.
Atmosphere is non existent. The place smells like the carpets have not been washed in years.
