In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. We’ve been here quite a few times and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The owner & staff are always welcoming and attentive. We’ve tried many different meals at this Black Bear Diner and have not been disappointed.

I am grossed out very badly. As someone who works with food myself I’ve noticed behaviors that are unsanitary.
The waitress took my order and it arrived after 45 minutes of waiting. My order was the cheddar and bacon burger. I asked for fully cooked meat and mayonnaise no vegetables on it. My food was undercooked and had no mayo on it at all.
Next was watching the serving staff not using any gloves. They would grab the food from the ledge that the kitchen staff placed it on and move the food around and put on powdered sugar on the food and whipped cream. They were not wearing gloves when doing this. None of them are wearing headbands or hairnets and not once did I see anyone wash their hands. I would not come back at all.

I absolutely loved this place, I have been here over 3 times in the past week and haven’t had a single bad experience. The service is quick and the employees are beyond polite. My favorite meal was their Big Bear Burger, which had one of the juiciest patties I have ever had. But the star of the show was definitely their carrot cake. I had to order another one to go because of how good the first one tasted.

I have been to over a dozen black bears, and I have never been as impressed as today. Today my servers name was Tania, and easily, she was the best server I have EVER had at ANY restaurant, and this is coming from a previous manager of a high profile casino restaurant.
She goes above and beyond her call of duty, and does everything with a gigantic and welcoming smile, and glowing positive attitude.
Tania truly does deserve recognition for her amazing service skills. This is the best black bear I have been to, and the best server I have ever received.
10/10 highly recommended.

Black bear diners are always a welcome treat for when you want that home cooked meal. The food is always good and the portions are amazing. I have not been disappointed with the food when going to different locations and this one is just a great. Service was a little lacking(as is most places since covid) and the tables and bench could use some work as the bench upholstery I sat in was completely falling apart. Even though there was only one waiter serving the entire side of the restaurant he was working fast and getting everyone service. The food came out fast and was delicious. I would definitely eat here again just for the food.

Sadly we went yesterday for Thanksgiving and the food was pricey and disappointing!All plates came to us cold and l commented on the country potatoes to the owner. He did offer other options which I declined. We will not be going back and this saddens me,as l have been a patron for many years The owner and l had a chat today and after acting as if l were not being upfront and some harsh words,we came to a resolution. I verbalized l know it is a hard business and our waitress was too notch! She got great tips from all four of us,as she was wonderful!Sir ,after reading your response l would appreciate you letting me review in my own thoughts. I did not want to get into the money back resolution as l felt that was between two adults.You first offered store credit which was not a great resolution considering all our meals were less than palatable. I simply reviewed this experience and had to listen to a list of how you thought l should have handled the situation ( up to and including me going to the restroom to phone you during our meal) as l explained l did not want to ruin my party ‘s Thanksgiving. Thank you for refunding a very disappointing meal and l will stop now to keep this as positive as possible. I told you l know it is a hard business and l left with you not liking me. Such is life. Good luck and continued success.

Stopped in for dinner. This black bear is well run. The staff are right on top of things. My husband got the all you eat fish fry. They showed up with two more pieces and more tartar sauce right as he was finishing the original three that came with the initial serving.
I got a BLT with avocado and soup, which was satisfying and filling. As usual I took half the sandwich home.

Ladies and gentlemen. I am a former United States Marine. Ive seen most of this country and some of the world. And I have to say, I am not really surprised that I found the absolute best hashbrowns in the world in the town I live in.
Black Bear diner has been around for quite a while. They are very well established, clean, attentive and fast!
Rarely, do you see on a Saturday morning and an absolutely packed restaurant with people waiting to come in the staff still smiling and moving like Olympians!

BTW!!) my first ever Club Sandwich…FOR BREAKFAST!!!
It had bacon and ham, and I got to choose the way my eggs were prepared before being put onto the sandwich (scrambled). Buttered sliced sourdough toast along with some tomatoes made an absolutely delicious sandwich!
Oh, did I mention the hashbrowns????
Do yourself a favor and go here either by yourself with some friends or with your entire family they are capable of accommodating all. Highly recommend.
