In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. We had a business meeting at Black Bear Diner and didn’t realize we sat there for two hours. We didn’t realize it because the staff didn’t treat us any different and continued to check on us, fill our drinks and meet our needs.
The food is always standard and what place makes REAL juiced orange juice.

A wonderful experience for breakfast & business. The server was exceptionally attentive & quality breakfast. As an Italian, I’ll brag on their selection of spicy or mild Italian breakfast sausage; so freaking good. An easy on-off from the highway & plenty of parking. You must visit, you’ll have an unbearable experience.

Why haven’t I tried this place sooner!?!? It’s fantastic, everything’s homade, It was so good I went on Monday and then again on Friday. The pancakes are phenomenal. I can’t wait to try more things off the huge menu. This is going to be a once a week diner place!

Me and my husband were there yesterday. The food is good, but the best part was our server Lori. My husband is diabetic and he started having a low before we got our food so I got Lori and told her and she immediately went and got him a glass of orange juice. She knew exactly what was happening and what to do. She was as handy as a pocket on a shirt and we felt very comfortable with her, but she has been around diabetics before so she knew exactly what to do and her service was unbelievable. We will definitely go back just to see her and of course the food. My husband said kudos to Miss Lori. Blackbear should be very happy with her and keep her as long as they can.

Always delicious and pretty decent staff. The staff do seem more stretched thin at this location compared to the Midwest city — it takes much longer to actually have your waiter come back to the table here than at another location. But they’re friendly and the food is good. Does take a while to get things for your meal such as syrup for pancakes or ketchup.

My husband and I went for our anniversary. The staff was nice enough, just not as attentive as I expected. We had to wait around to pay our bill – and they weren’t very busy.

Enjoyed the food. Man was it a lot. Hashbrowns could have been cooked longer but still good. Nice flavor on the meats. Had the grizz which was a little of everything. Husband had the corned beef hash and was quite happy with it. Pancakes were nice and fluffy.

This was our first visit and we definitely will be back. Service was top notch and thr portion sizes were great. Everyone loved what they ordered. Bear claws are my favorite thing and when I seen them on the menu I had to order one. Yum! So glad I did. I even took one home. Wonderful food and service!
