This Black Bear location is well kept. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a friendly “Hello”. It smells welcoming and very clean. There is fun artwork all throughout the restaurant to entertain your eyes as you walk about. Bear puns, murals and fantastic woodwork. The menu’s are newspaper style, classic touch. I came with my 10 year old daughter, and the hostess did ask if I’d prefer a kids menu for malia, before we were taken to our table, which was a nice option. Very kid friendly. OK, now to the food- I ordered the eggs Benedict and Malia ordered the blueberry pancakes the Bene was tasty, perfectly salted, hardy, large portion sizes. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly. I do love hot sauce on my bene and I was super happy (when i asked) that they had chalulla on hand. My complaints- the ham was more like deli slices and I prefer a thicker cut on my bene. The hash browns were cooked with a little too much oil. The oil flavor was coming out a little too strong for me. Malia loved her blueberry pancakes and cleaned her plate. Service was fantastic here and the staff elevated the environment and experience. Nice work! 8/10 for this diner. Families will love it here!

This was one of those meals that felt comforting in every way, not just the food.

We ordered the vegetarian omelette and the bacon and avocado eggs Benedict, and both were exactly what you want from a diner breakfast. The omelette was fluffy and loaded with vegetables, filling without feeling heavy. The eggs Benedict was rich and perfectly balanced, with creamy hollandaise, crisp bacon, and fresh avocado. Everything came out hot, generous, and clearly made with care.

What really made the experience special, though, was our waiter, Neal. We’re new to Washington, and he took the time to talk with us, offer hiking recommendations, and share a little local knowledge. It never felt rushed or scripted. By the end of the meal, it felt like we’d been welcomed into the area rather than just served breakfast.

Between the cozy atmosphere, the comfort food done right, and genuinely kind service, this place left a great impression. We’ll definitely be back, and we’ll be hoping Neal is working when we do.

A solid breakfast spot with a great menu—portions are generous and service is friendly. Highlights include a superb mimosa, pancake, omelette and good coffee; overall vibe feels better than IHOP for a casual morning meal.

*Minor downside:*
The bread in the club sandwich was unusually dry, making it tough to bite into and it hurt my palate rest was awesome.

Worth visiting for hearty breakfasts and solid service—just skip the club sandwich or ask for fresher bread.

We were greeted quickly and seated fast. Loving the paper menu, old school feel. The waitress was kind when getting our drinks and order. You could tell she was overwhelmed and the only gal on the entire floor helping both sides of the restaurant. Doing her best to stay a rock star while bouncing back and forth by herself. It was about 3pm and content with our wait. I was excited to order an ‘ol fashion BLT on RYE bread, the bacon was thick cut, very lean. 🙂 with fries. My mom enjoyed her loaded baked potato. Good atmosphere over all. Was able to take half my meal home for leftovers.

Was a good brunch stop mid week. We ordered country fried steak, cheese burger, pancakes w/ eggs, sausage, and chicken tenders w/ fries. Everything was delicious, the red potatoes with the country fried steak was delicious. I do wish the dishes didn’t have any of the decorative lettuce, seems like a waste.
Our service was good, I think our server got a little side-tracked a couple of times when our food came out we didn’t have silverware right away and we had to track him back down. He had a great attitude which we appreciated. Overall would love to come back again sometime for some over food items. The cinnamon roll looked amazing, would love to try it!

Fast and friendly service. My mom called ahead for her order, but upon arriving I decided to stay and eat as well. They were quick to accommodate without complaint. Food was great.

We got seated right away and the server was immediately trying to get us to order asap. I told her I’d never been here so I’d need a bit. She proceeded to stop by every minute to see if I decided yet. When we received our food she asked if we needed anything and then we didn’t see her the rest of the time. My waffle was very pancake like as it was sticky and mushy and that was without syrup. It just stuck to the back of my mouth as I tried to eat it. Only the edges had a little crispness to it. My partner got a scrambowl which had multiple uncut potatoes in it. If I wanted to be rushed for mediocre food I would have gotten fast food.

We love Black Bear diner but the experience at the Puyallup restaurant might change our mind. The server was very good. But it took forever to get our food. My chicken fried steak and eggs were good but my wife’s avocado toast was horrible, didn’t look like avocado toast it was served with giant slices of tomato that you don’t see on avocado toast normally. My wife asked for an egg white, when it came it was scrambled and cold and not what you expected from ordering an egg white. Also the bread was hard as a rock. When we talked to the manager he said that is the way they make it there which in our opinion not good.

Morning breakfast:
Our welcome to the Diner was very welcoming. The waitress was very polite and brought our beverages in a timely manner. Asked if we were ready to order, we acknowledge that we were, as we took our order, in less than ten minutes we received our breakfast. I ordered French toast 3 slices with 2 eggs over medium and 2 bacon. My wife had the 3 slices French toast, bowl grits and 1 ham. I have to admit, I’ve been to Ihop, and Denny’s, but never had this quick of a service. Minus the momosa my wife decided to get, the price for the meal would have been under $50. Also, no waiting. Thank you black bear diner for this experience.
