I ordered the California Bacon Benedicts, which were perfectly executed—rich hollandaise and flawlessly poached eggs. My wife had “The Grizz” and loved every comforting, flavorful bite.
Everything is clearly made fresh, which is wonderful, but be warned: the place was packed, and the wait for the food was noticeable.
Verdict: This is a clear 5-star winner. While the wait for the food is a little longer than some places, it’s only because everything is truly made from scratch and worth every second. The incredible food and incredibly pleasant, helpful service make this an absolute must-visit. Highly recommend!
We went back 09/22 to give it another try after speaking to GM Art on the phone and he assuring me that it was a one off and that they pride themselves on delivering great service. Black Bear is redeemed. The service was very good and the food was good. GM Art came and introduced himself to us. I truly believe that everyone has a bad day every now and then. It’s what one does to correct it and learn from it that sets one establishment apart from another. Black Bear delivered. Thank you.
This was supposed to be our 1st time trying Black Bear. We were excited when we arrive as everyone was friendly and always wanted to try out this place. We placed our order for 2 hamburgers . After 42 minutes and no food, we got the attention of our server who went and checked on our ordered and came back and said it would be about another 10 minutes. That would almost put us at almost the 1 hour mark if indeed it would be another 10 minutes. We didn’t wait around to find out and left disappointed, discouraged and hungry.
My husband likes the Hobo Omelett with country potatoes. He also pointed out that they offer various flavor options of creamers for your coffee.
I like to get the hot chocolate with whipped cream. Sometimes, they’ll even add choclate syrup.
We were seated and waited about 20 minutes. No one took our order. Then a group of 6 walked in. Someone took their drink order immediately. So we left.
We told the cashier of our experience and he offered a paltry apology. No explanation or attempt to remedy the situation.
It was my husband’s birthday, no less.
The service: Dominique was by far one of the best servers I have ever had in my life. She was quick, efficient and attentive. She engaged my terrible joke about her not telling me that the hungry bear was a large portion. We (my friend included) all shared a little banter and made my trip to the valley a little more special.
The food: yes, it was the typical breakfast foods you’d expect at diner. But wow … was it cooked so well. My eyes didn’t know where to begin or where to end. Brava to the kitchen for elevating the standard breakfast. Definitely set a new bar of expectation for me.
