In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. This is the first time I come to this establishment. I’ve already been to the one at Fairfield and Tracy. And like the previous other places the Black Bear Diner’s food never disappoints. The food here was also delicious, and so are their pies. My chicken steak was soft I was able to cut it with my fork, and my eggs runny just the way I like them. I also liked the cute souvenirs at the entrance, that was cute. Now for a very busy place we didn’t wait a long time to be seated, get our drinks and food. Their service was all around wonderful.

Stopped in on my way to run some errands. Service was fast and with smiles. There was no wait even though there were quite a few people there dining. I ordered carry out and got my food hot and it was delicious. I’ll be back!

This location is pretty roomy, so a lot of people can easily be accommodated. Order was taken quite quickly and brought out the same too. We were 3 and even though we had a coupon for a free entree, our bill was still over $40 but we did order 2 drinks and a coffee. My pancakes looked so good but unfortunately were rather crumbly. The ham was cold and very hard. The brisket sandwich was good but a bit dry, but the fries very good. For the Chicken n waffle, the waffle was almost tasteless for and the chicken was okay. Lastly the grits just tasted like tiny bits of potatoes in water with melted butter on top, but this being the first time trying this, we don’t know if that’s what it’s supposed to taste like….oh and the coffee was not hot. Our waiter was very nice and staff was very attentive. The waiter brought out refills for the sodas before asking, but I did have to wait and ask for more “warm” coffee…

We decided to eat here because we are a large group and there are so many options on the menu…something for everyone. We were seated immediately and the dining room was spotless. The food was good. Ordered my son the bear pancake and they brought it out completely burned from the bottom. But I asked our server if they could remake it and without hesitation he said yes and apologized for the quality of it. Everything else was fine and the second bear pancake they brought out was good too.

Food was good the price you pay. server did seem a little distracted. Bathrooms could have used a bit of help so it lower the atmosphere. The menus were rather difficult to use and they had that funny newspaper smell to them since they were newspapers. And that lowered the atmosphere but in all it was a fairly decent will probably go there again as we’ve been there a couple times before. I wouldn’t say it’s a five-star restaurant or even a four-star but it’s 10 times better than fast food.
