We were greeted and seated quickly. Our waiter was very welcoming! We received our drinks very quickly. This was our first time here so he offered additional time to review the menu before he gave us suggestions. I ordered the Shasta burger. Even with me ordering rather plain, the burger was tasty and these sweet potato fries are AMAZING! my husband ordered the Bear Paw Chicken fried steak ftom the lighter menu. The gravy was smooth and delicious. The chicken fried steak and potatoes were really good. The only suggestions I have to offer a marshmellow dip for the sweet potato fries. You can pay the bill via credit card at the table. Overall wonderful 1st visit. We will definitely add this to our favorites list.

It can’t get any better, the waitress was awesome, very nice. The food was very tasty, got the BIGFOOT Chicken fried steak and eggs, steak was cooked perfect and was crispy threw the whole meal, and massive, 10 oz, with 3 eggs (over easy, of course) a side (hashbrowns), and it comes with 2 biscuits (I got those) or fruit, the biscuits were insanely massive, kinda got a crust on the outside but such a soft dense interior. Gravy, was awesome, not runny, not super thick, tasted great. Hashbrowns were a diffrent style, they were the best I’ve ever had, kind wide, short thin crispy rectangles, so good. I’m a large fellow who really only looks for a large meal, and I couldn’t finish my last biscuit. I had a add on side gravy and a chocolate cake slice to go and it was 25$ no tip 30$ with tip, it would have been 15ish bucks for just the entree alone, that’s a steal. If im ever around this is a must. ( in my photo I moved the orange, is was deco on the steak plate )

Always a nice meal at Black Bear Diner. Tonight I had chicken fried steak and eggs with a biscuit and grits. Others had Denver omelet with hash browns and Club sandwich with fries. Nice atmosphere with friendly hosts.

My daughter and I went out for breakfast at the Independence, Mo location today. We hadn’t had the best experience at this restaurant in the past, but decided to give them a second chance. Although the service was slow, the food was okay (not good, not bad). I paid our server after she left our food as we had an appointment we needed to get to. As my daughter was finishing her biscuits and gravy, we discovered what looked like a plastic label baked into the biscuit. I made eye contact with our server and waved on more than one occasion, trying to bring this to her attention, but was unable to catch her. I did stop another server, who promptly alerted a manager.
The manager offered to comp our bill and replace our food, however we had already paid. He then gave us some “bear bucks” to come in for a free meal in the future. I was hesitant to accept these, as we were unsure we would return, however I figured maybe I’d give them another chance in a few months. Returning home from the restaurant I saw that the bear bucks expire 12/31/2025, next week. Unfortunately I do not think I will be returning before then, or at all.

I wasn’t very impressed with the food. It was quite bland, and I had to add extra seasoning myself. I ordered the biscuits and gravy along with the sweet potato fries, but the fries were soggy. I was disappointed, especially since this was my first time here and I had heard such good things.

Wow! Meals were great, portions were huge and server was very friendly. Can’t go wrong with the Black Bear especially if you have a big appetite. Pot Roast dinner was $15.99 and came with a nice side salad. Tri Tip Dip sandwich was $14.38. Had Pot roast at Corner Cafe last week and it did not hold a candle to the Black Bear in taste, price or portion size.

At 1st it wasn’t busy for a Friday night we were there just before 5pm. By the time we left it was packed and people were in long line to get in. We had the all you can eat fish, it was a lot of food, we did get 2 more pieces but we really didn’t need that much food.

They serve many different foods including breakfast all day. Portion size was good felt value was fair.

Service was a little slow, however they were friendly and kind just really busy.

We would go back again and try some other options, the breakfast looked good.

Black Bear Diner is one of our favorites. Love the Friday night all you can eat fish dinner. It comes with 2 sides and you can choose them. My favorite is onion rings. They also have prime rib on weekends and it is great too. I have yet to find anything I dont like.

Ate here for dinner. No wait to be seated and our server Gavin was very attentive and provided great service. I ordered the meatloaf with sweet potato fries. The fries weren’t all that good but the meatloaf was delicious and very filling. Best I’ve had in a long time. Recommend coming here to eat

Wanted a quick, not pricy good restaurant for a meal. Even though the place had a lot of customers, we were immediately seated and food came fast. I had the meatloaf dinner which was very large and wife had the taco salad which was also large. Server was efficient and nice. Would recommend
