I had my daughter’s first birthday party here and it was absolutely perfect. I will say, there was some serious miscommunication in the beginning. I called in November to book my reservation for her party in late January. I then called again in early January to confirm and was told everything is set accordingly. 2 days before my party, the manager called to say another large party booked the same room and that they actually don’t accept reservations. Somehow one of the new hires accidentally double booked our party area but she was actively working on reaching out to try to reschedule the party. This was an honest mistake, although really inconvenient timing. We scheduled a time to talk the next day. Knowing I was very worried about this, Angie got back to me immediately after she spoke with the other reservation holders. She made it clear the room was ours. The next day, we showed up to a perfectly arranged room, incredibly attentive staff and drool worthy food. It really is that good! They literally had one end of the table’s food coming out before the server even finished taking orders from the other side, it was incredible! Angie and our servers checked in on us several times to make sure everything was perfect. Black Bear diner was a huge part of making my daughter’s first birthday everything i could’ve wished for.

So I have recently gone to this restaurant quite a number of times. Every single time I go there I am greeted with a smile. And great people. I think my favorite person that works. There is the assistant manager by the name of Angie. I will tell you why. My first name is Martin recently I have gone through a lot of of heartache in my life, and troubles. Recently, I stopped by with a circumstance that she helped me out with and people like that are why there is good people in this world. Everyone that goes to this restaurant should understand how great of an atmosphere it is and how good of a person Angie is thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I first discovered BBD in California, and was thrilled to find one only a short drive away when I moved to east county several years ago.
I go here fairly frequently and have never been disappointed.
My only (and minor) criticism is that they sometimes seem to be understaffed and there can be a wait to get service after the food has been delivered.

This was my first visit to the Black Bear diner after signing up for the Bear Lovers E-Club.
It happened to be my birthday month so within a few days I received a coupon for a free Bear’s Choice.
I chose the sweet cream waffle with the eggs and sausage links. The waffle was perfectly cooked, a little crispy, buttery, and comes with an adorable paw print stamped on it.
The atmosphere is fun, family friendly, and the bears are very cute and entertaining. I would rank Black Bear among a Denny’s and iHop, but better quality for the food. The restaurant has a family owned vibe that felt inviting and warm.
They have their own house hot sauces that are very cute and best themed based on their spiciness level.
Service was fast and attentive. I did not wait long for my food and they kept my coffee refilled. I wished the coffee was a little higher quality, but it was decent if you need a fix.
Overall fun restaurant I would certainly recommend for a family. I am waiting for my confirmation to join the passport club to come in and plan to visit a few different locations to see how the vibe and consistency is at other restaurants.

I have been visiting more regularly the last couple months. Moved here from MN, 3 years ago. I am drawn into the genuine warmth of relationship. Andrea, my server, has become a friend. Like in the OLD TV show Cheers, you wanna be known. Her friendliness, and genuine kindness, flavors the food and enhances the fine work of the rest of the staff. I see church Men’s groups gather here, I see the “regulars”, that I must be growing to be a part of. We are grateful that such a community gathering place exists. I’m grateful for the space you have created. – David

I’ve been there twice now. I ordered the taco salad the first time and it was delicious. The second time I had a patty melt and it was quite possibly the worst I’ve ever had. The meat was tasteless. The service and atmosphere were amazing. The food is terrible now. My two sisters felt the same about their food too. One had the Rueben and the other had an omelette. I have never left a bad review before but the food was so bad that I had to comment on it. The service was exceptional and so is the atmosphere. I don’t know what happened to the food between my two visits. Judging by the rest of the reviews, there’s only a couple that found the food so tasteless. The portion sizes humongous.

I love that I can go to any black bear diner and expect the same. Coffee is good. I usually get some kind of scramble. Love the three tiered hot sauce situation. Love that it’s bear themed. Black Bear is the new IHOP/Denny’s

Not your usual diner experience, their food is excellent and well presented. They offer a few choices of sausage, including a tasty in-house recipe. The sweet cream waffles are like none I’ve had in all my travels – huge, fluffy and yummy. Staff are attentive and the service is accomodating even when it’s busy. And the coffee…? Yum! For this picky eater, it’s a rare win-win to eat here.♡

Good service, good lunch.
I ordered The Cobb Salad with grilled chicken. My wife ordered the Turkey dinner. Both were large portion size(with leftovers to take home.) We also ordered chocolate cake to-go. This was a very positive experience.
