In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. First time here, and was looking forward to it, but unfortunately we were left very disappointed. Positives first, the staff was friendly, and our server was very good, but the food was not up to the same level, we asked for well done / crispy hash browns and were served cold, not even fully cooked hash browns. I asked for new ones and was brought a plate of warm, undercooked raw hash browns that should have never left the kitchen. Staff needs to pay more attention to product before serving it, it was obvious that these were not fully cooked, so why even serve them?

Lived in Goodyear for 25 years but never stopped by this location until recently. Parking lot always full and decent reviews on google. Went in for breakfast. Service was excellent from start to finish. Now the food was another story. Servings were large and the presentation was pretty good. But the taste is where I was disappointed. I ordered chicken fried steak with hash browns and scrambled eggs. The hash browns were more of a home style fried potato type but were very soft and mushy lacking any flavor. Eggs were, well, eggs are eggs. Can’t really expect anything more. The chicken fried steak was a round oval piece that is a mass produced item. Would have liked to seen a more hammered out piece, hand breaded with a good white gravy. But I got the run of the mill TV dinner type. Expected more, delivered less. Will not return.

Black bear was good food in California, but here there are number of issues we ran into…
First, we ordered a “burger” & it came out on Toasted sourdough slices… I thought there would’ve been a sourdough buns
Next, eggs came out with yolk even though we order over hard eggs.
There was a HAIR in our water cup.
Evrything on my plate was cold. You can even see that the butter did not melt on the toast in one of the pictures.
The glaze on the cinnamon roll French toast tasted plastic.
Fries were cold.
Also we don’t know why the waiter asked how we would like the burger, if that was not taken into consideration anyway. We asked it to be medium, and it came out fully well done and dry.
Our bill came out to nearly $50, and that’s with the discounted eggs that they had to give me.
Went to pay, and the Apple Pay or TOUCH TO PAY does NOT work.
Food not great, but the waiter was nice. Will not be returning.

I was feeling extremely sick and tired. I just wanted to get a good hot meal before I went home to bed had a lot of chores to do today so I just want to take a nap before I had to get it done but after the great customer service and help me I felt way better got a lot of things done today. I’m very grateful for the meal and I’ll definitely come here again. It was absolutely worth the money. The New York medium steak was absolutely amazing. It came with hashbrowns or red potato. I got a red potato cut up. It was absolutely delicious. It also came with a side of waffles and I got myself a Diet Pepsi.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to get a good warm meal quick

My husband and frequent Black Bear often, but today was especially nice. Our server Katie was AMAZING! When you visit, please ask for her section. However the MVP of our visit was the chef Hector. Today I ordered the taco salad with marinated grilled chicken and Chef Hector did NOT disappoint! The chicken and taco salad ingredients were delicious! Great vibes always!
