In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. We went on a Thursday evening and it was absolutely fabulous. Our server Alex shared his experience with what was good on the menu depending on what we were in the mood for – great customer service! He refilled our drinks and stopped at the table twice to make sure everything was okay. When the food came, we said, “Wow!” The portion size was huge and the atmosphere was relaxed and casual. They had a charming jukebox and it was quiet enough to have a conversation. There was a very young couple that looked like they were on a date, and one or two with children… Wonderful place!!!

We stopped in for breakfast at Black Bear Diner and had a really great experience. The menu offered plenty of choice and we each found something we liked. The food arrived promptly and the portions were generous. I especially enjoyed the biscuits and the breakfast sides—everything tasted fresh and homey. The staff were friendly and kept the coffee coming. The atmosphere felt relaxed and family-friendly (which is perfect after a day off!). We’ll definitely be back when we’re in the area again.

I love this place already. Introduced by my friend yesterday. I had to come back again today for something else on menu. The waitress was so wonderful! She was refilling my drink exact and how much I needed. She remembers me from yesterday which was funny. She provided the best service and everything too! I wish this Black Bear Diner was in Boston area. 100% will return back here if I am ever in Phoenix again.

We visited on a Sunday morning and experienced a long wait—about 45 minutes, even though the hostess originally told us 20. It was a busy time, with many other guests also waiting for tables, so the delay was understandable but still.
Once we were seated, we placed our order right away, but the food took over 20 minutes to arrive. On the plus side, our server was friendly and attentive throughout the visit.
I ordered the chicken tenders with buffalo sauce. Unfortunately, they were quite dry and lacked enough sauce to add flavor. The fries were also disappointing—soft instead of crispy.
Overall, the service was pleasant, but the food and wait times didn’t quite meet expectations. Might be worth trying again at a less busy time. The restaurant it’s charming it has a cabin/ forest feel.

Haley was hands down the BEST server I’ve ever had! She was incredibly attentive, genuinely friendly, and made me feel so welcome from the moment I walked in. I was helped right away, and since it was my first time here, she gave amazing recommendations that did not disappoint. Everything tasted absolutely delicious! Even though the place was busy, she kept checking in to make sure I had everything I needed. Truly a 10/10 experience Haley is outstanding!

You wouldn’t know Black Bear Diner has been in business for 30 years—the atmosphere feels brand new and so welcoming! I got there early and started my day with a perfect avocado toast topped with a perfectly cooked over-easy egg. It was fantastic. The hostess and my waitress were both incredibly friendly, too. This place is a classic for a reason!

My daughter and I had a wonderful brunch at Black Bear on 9/10. Our server, Tiffany, was friendly, attentive, and efficient she really made the experience enjoyable. The food was delicious overall; the only small issue was that the hash browns weren’t cooked thoroughly. Other than that, everything was great. We’ll definitely be back!
