In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Our menu offers comfort food classics, and our entire menu is offered all day long. Whether you are craving pancakes at 8 pm or pot roast at 8 am – we’ve got something for everyone. The food was delicious. Generous portion sizes. We couldn’t eat it all. My husband ordered The Grizz. The pancakes were so light & fluffy. Two people could split this meal. I had the Breakfast Sliders with the hot Italian sausage. It was very good.

We usually eat at the Academy location which has been great, but since we live closer to the Fountain location we decided to eat there instead. The food unfortunately was a let down. My scrambled eggs were undercooked on the inside and overly cooked dark brown on the outside. We ordered biscuits and gravy for the table to share, but the gravy was cold like it had just come out of the refrigerator. Our waitress who was very nice apologized and brought us out a fresh plate of nice fluffy biscuits with much hotter gravy on top! Our son didn’t like his burger because it was covered in Thousand Island sauce, but that was his fault as he didn’t read the menu entirely which stated there was Thousand Island sauce on it. The sweet cream pancakes tasted more sweeter at this location, but that’s not a good thing! Taste it before adding syrup as it was sweet enough without it. Overall, the experience was okay. We now know we prefer the Academy location to the Fountain one. The poor food ma have been due to them being extremely busy (12pm). Missed opportunity to make us repeat customers! Clean looking restaurant and great customer service, though. No pictures as cell phone was dead at the restaurant. Sorry!

The servers were kind and patient always making sure that I had everything I needed. The atmosphere was rather homey and relaxing with wonderful decor that truly made the aesthetic of the restaurant. The food was the best thing about the restaurant. It was high quality and mouthwatering, and it was a worthwhile price for the quantity of food you receive. Overall a wonderful dining experience that I would never turn down.

We eat quite frequently at Black Bear Diner in Fountain. Never a bad experience with any of the food or staff. We have probably had each of the servers two or three times! Megan, Cyndi, Haley, Regina, Grace all of them have been professional, attentive, friendly, sense of humors (love a sense of humor). They just make the dining experience relaxing and fun. I guess that’s why we eat there so much…..and the food is very good, if you go away hungry that’s on you!! The portions are humungous!

This was the best dinner decision we made in quite a while. This location was clean, quiet, and a relaxing place for a fantastic meal. Our excellent service was provided by Cindy, and let me tell you, she is fantastic. Cindy was so friendly, made excellent recommendations for each person at our table and even made a recommendation that allowed me to get that salad I really wanted with my meal. The food was great, and Cindy helped us get our left over food packed up to take home! All in all, a great experience. The kitchen did a great job with the speed of prep, the food was hot, and delicious! If you want a great place to eat, stop in Fountain, CO at Black Bear Diner. If you are lucky, you will find Cindy, she really made this dinner the best. Thanks for the smiles, Cindy.
