In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. We visited for Sunday lunch with the kids. Since it was the weekend, there was a 30-minute wait, but the line moved efficiently.
We ordered the Hungry Bear Chicken Fried Steak, the Scrambowl, and the Reuben sandwich. The food was delicious and the portions were very large—especially the chicken fried steak.
Despite the restaurant being busy, the service was impressive. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food came out at lightning speed.
Overall, it was a great meal and we will definitely be going again.

Over all super cool spot… hardly any wait. Service was okay. Food was good and it had a great vibe…. the place just felt good…. there was black bears everywhere… and the prices were pretty reasonable…. will definitely go back.

We have been to this location a few times and went there to use my birthday coupon for a free “Bear’s Choice” breakfast meal with a sweet cream waffle, bacon, eggs (added the strawberries and cream…awesome deal by the way! just by signing up quick and free online with their e-club). Hubby got the Reuben. Both meals were delicious. I’m not a huge American-style pancake fan generally but their sweet cream pancakes on a prior visit were amazing…fluffy and so flavorful. We have sat at the counter a couple times and watched the staff hustle and communicate their way through the busy-ness. We complimented our waiter Jackie who was friendly and attentive and she brought by the manager Ed who was a pleasure to speak to and we let him know how well run the restaurant is…we are lucky to live so close to this restaurant! Also…they have fresh squeezed OJ! I had a peach mimosa at a previous visit and it was delicious (their breakfast sandwich is also a favorite…Parmesan crusted sourdough!!).

We stopped by for a late breakfast. The family ordered a variety of dishes. I ordered the 10-ounce bacon cheeseburger medium rare and it was very good. This came with fries I have to say it was a small portion of fries that could’ve been better. The interior is spacious with plenty of tables to sit down and enjoy your meal. The service was courteous and friendly. It did take us 30 minutes to be seated and it can be crowded on the weekends I want to mention, the waiter who picked up our dishes and cleared our table Claudio was his name and he was very helpful. His customer service was outstanding. It’s customer service like his that makes a customer come back, this is the first time that I’ve been to this establishment but I will be visiting again. There’s plenty of parking with handicap stalls at the front entrance.

. Our server was Gloria she was a very attentive server always checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed. It was the first time trying their dinner. I had the pot roast which was very good but I didn’t care to much for the green beans but overall a very good meal. I’ve had their pot roast sandwich before and it was excellent. My son had the bacon bleu cheese burger and really enjoyed it. I would recommend eating here.

I stopped in for a quick breakfast after dropping off a friend at the airport. First time here – instantly impressed with the cleanliness and friendly atmosphere at the restaurant. Cute decor – woodsy look and of course Black bears, done very tastefully.
Gloria seated me and was my waitress. She is amazing. She made sure I had everything I needed and that everything was to my liking. She was friendly and efficient and took care of all her customers in the same way. My food was delicious- I ordered a California omelette with avocado, mushrooms and jack cheese, country potatoes and rye toast. Everything was so fresh and prepared perfectly. The potatoes were especially yummy! I can’t wait to bring my family here – so glad I finally had a chance to eat here! Thank you Gloria and everyone at Black Bear Diner!
