In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. I went there today for lunch and I have to say, even though there was a little bit of a wait, it was well worth it. The pot roast sandwich with the aïoli and the Parmesan crust was superb. Even though it was super busy, the waitress was absolutely on it. Very friendly did the order exactly like I wanted it. The only thing that I had a problem with is the lady that I took was an older woman and she only had a half of a BLT because she wanted soup, but the soup wasn’t ready yet they said. So when I got the bill, I was still charged for the full BLT. That was a little bit disappointing and I asked the waitress. I said why am I paying $13 for a half of a sandwich, and she stated, that’s just the way it rings up. I didn’t wanna argue because I really did like the waitress, but I will say that kind of threw me a little bit. I still gave her a really good tip because the service was so outstanding but I have to say to order a half a sandwich and pay $13 for it, had I known that at the time, I would’ve definitely just ordered the whole thing and let her take the other half home with her. But all in all, I have to say you have to try that sandwich. It will not disappoint and I felt it was worthy of a good review, even though I disagree with being charged for the full amount.

Never have I had cold. Like ice cold eggs served to me. There was also something off with the pancakes. Idk I’ve eaten at many blackbear diners all over the pnw and I’ve never had this poor of an experience. My girlfriends hashbrowns were also ice cold. It was really disappointing. But the oj was as great as always

5 stars all the way around, I spent a lot of years working in restaurants and must compliment the manager and staff. It was busy and everyone was working together, helping each other out, and all had a smile on there face. The place was full but seating, service was super fast, in and out of in about 35 minutes. Great food, great atmosphere, looking forward to the next time

Went here for dinner with my family tonight and it was excellent. Our server Lisa was really great! I noticed there was only 1 cook in the back so I asked Lisa to pass our compliment to the cook (who she said was Jose). Our wait time was not long at all and everything came out tasting perfect. We could see Jose working hard back there. I work in the restaurant industry so I need Jose to know how incredible he is for getting so much food out fast, correct, and tasty. Jose also knows how to perfectly season and cook a grilled chicken breast! Keep up the work Jose, we appreciate you!!!!

My fiance and myself come here propobly once or twice a month. We had the pleasure of getting michael r again and hes great. Super attentive and curtious.

As a local ive come here a few times when its really busy and waited for my food alittle longer than normal and it was still great! Black bear makes big portions making sure everyone is filled up before leaving and i appreciate that.

Great experience. They are memorable and large portions. Service extremely good. Host / waiter. Took risk asked him if ever was mistaken for woody Harrison. He said a few times. Visit there and accent .etc. Great server. Had a good visit to bend oregon.

We went there Thursday evening for dinner and ordered two breakfast and one BLT. Our server did not take our order correctly, she only brought out two meals, not three and then didn’t understand what we were telling her about my meal – two of us ordered the same meal. Mind you there was one other couple finishing their meal so we were the only people in the restaurant. After we got our food and got our order correct. The server only came to our table to ask if we wanted to go boxes and ask how we wanted to pay the bill. We love to go to your restaurant but the next time we go there and that server is working we will go elsewhere. We felt like we were dirty had the plague and unwelcome in your restaurant. It was very awkward. She came to the table, said nothing and stood by my chair, hovering. My daughter brought her meal home due to the actions of the server not making her feel comfortable.

Classic country vibe American diner. I’ve been told from menu that this restaurant has 30 years history since 1995, it can be tell it was very successful restaurant, everything is solid built and black bear themes reflect in details everywhere. Hope it can continue another 30 years, even competing with so many new styles of restaurant, the solid build country style restaurant always classic.
