Great breakfast spot! My family was in Bend on vacation. We first stopped at trip advisor’s #1 breakfast place but the wait was over 30 minutes on a Wednesday. We decided to keep driving and we were so lucky to just happen upon the black bear diner. Food was great! The server warned us that we might be waiting a little considering that 3 tables just walked in the door. The wait wasn’t too bad.

Normally Black Bear Diners are a good place to go. Unfortunately we may of got them on an off day. Came in three weeks ago for dinner. Only two other tables with people when we arrived. After we were sat, we waited 15 minutes for the server to come back. Which he forgot our water and that didn’t arrive until after food came out. To be fair, he may have been new and they may have been low on staff cause someone who looked like a manager was running around working hard with a possible large group in a banquet room.

We had dinner at the Black Bear Diner on a Saturday night in mid June, 2023. I did a review on another Black Bear in southern California. As such I wasn’t going to review this Black Bear in Bend, Oregon. But since they were very similar and different at the same time.

The Shrimp n fries were crispy with a flavorful breading that didn’t even need dipping sauce. Chicken Fried Steak n eggs with fresh baked biscuit and gravy was delicious! Even the ranch dip was yummy! We come here often and are never disappointed! My only complaint is that they need to hire another server, the only 2 there both times we went were overly busy which created long wait times. Our server, Lee, was friendly and worked hard to scramble keeping everyone happy.

Food was good, bacon and cheddar hamburger was delicious, the salad was decent. The people were super nice, the bear clawed chicken didn’t have much flavor the gravy was decent. The dip try tip didn’t have much flavor, but it was decent.

One of our favorite place to go for brunch! Their loaded potato was great. So was slider and pancakes.

WORST food from any BlackBear I’ve ever visited. After being sat down and handed our menus, the server immediately came to us and said “what do you want to order.” I asked for a couple of more minutes to look at the menu. The sever name Lauretta came back a couple of minutes to take our order. I asked for the “chicken fettuccine, ADD chicken and mushrooms.” The Lauretta aggressively said “what fettuccine?” I said I didn’t know there was more than one option. I then said the adult one since I will be sharing with my son. She asked me “what do you want for your side?” I asked if I could get soup to which she said yes. My other son ordered the tuna melt with a salad. The sever asked him what kind of dressing and he asked for ranch. Once again in an aggressive tone she said “we don’t have French.” I corrected her and told her he asked for RANCH.

This burrito was legitimately Taco Bell quality, if not less. Potatoes were soggy, but I did appreciate the one piece of untoasted wet bread.

Service was inattentive. Took a while to have anyone take my order, although I was seated and given my drink rather quickly. There was 2 servers and maybe 4 tables of patrons. The food came out quickly. Got my appetizer salad at the same time as my meal, which seemed odd. The meal (turkey dinner) was flavorless and dry. This was not the experience I’ve had at other Black Bear Diner establishments. Won’t go back to this one.

Came for lunch with 3 people. California burger with deep fried breaded onion rings and ranch for dipping was good. Prefer battered onion rings but still cooked well and flavorful. Will get burger again. Two orders of eggs benedict, one with bacon and one with chicken fried steak, both good and will order again. SERVICE WAS GREAT. Changed order after ordering, staff friendly, and order correct. Very busy store. I would ask for hashbrowns to be well done but that is a personal choice. Parking is easy but did not see trailer parking, maybe on street. Family friendly for kids of all ages. As for wheelchair access, front doors are heavy. Will come back.
