Reviews
I visited BKD Bagels with high hopes, and while there is definitely potential here, my first experience didn’t quite meet expectations.
Atmosphere & Service
The shop itself has a cute, modern aesthetic, but the vibe felt a bit more like a fast-food chain than a cozy local spot. On this particular day, the staff seemed visibly frustrated, which unfortunately impacted the service. It was great to see them training local youth, and the trainees seemed to be enjoying themselves; however, the focus on training meant that customer attention felt secondary.
Coffee & Food
As an Australian cafe snob, I’m used to a certain standard of coffee, I found the espresso lacking. I ordered a Flat White with an extra shot, but it arrived looking more like a cappuccino with over-steamed milk, and the espresso itself felt quite weak despite the extra dose.
Regarding the food, the Spicy Everything Bagel was delicious! However, the ratio was a bit off—it felt like a side of bagel with my cream cheese. It was quite difficult to eat, and next time I’d likely take the bagel to go so I can manage the spread myself.
Final Thoughts
I want to give props to the team for getting BKD up and running, and I wish them the best as they refine their workflow. I’m hopeful that once the post-holiday slump wears off, the energy in the shop will feel a bit more welcoming.
I would love to come back next time and give a better review, but this time was lacking luster.
That said, the drinks don’t live up to the same standard. Compared to the quality of the bagels, they feel underwhelming and not really worth ordering.
Overall, BKD Bagels is a great stop if you’re there for what they do best — bagels and spreads. I’ll happily keep coming back for those, but next time I’ll skip the drinks.
The atmosphere is nice and welcoming, and you can tell the place has a loyal following. That said, the line was very long, and the service could definitely be faster. We’ll probably go back again at some point, but it wasn’t quite the standout experience we were hoping for.
Service could also use improvement. It felt a bit unorganized and not as attentive as it should be, which took away from the overall experience. Additionally, the space wasn’t very clean during our visit—the tables and floors did not appear to be properly maintained, which made the environment feel less welcoming.
With improvements in food quality, service, and cleanliness, this place could become much more inviting and enjoyable. Hopefully, these areas are addressed, as we’d like to have a better experience next time.
I didn’t come on opening day, to avoid long lines and big crowds. However, they were still fairly new when I visited. They were close to fully stocked when I came on a Saturday afternoon.
I tried the following items:
-jalapeno cheddar bagel with veg cream cheese, toasted- this was good, except the bagel was still to soft and not toasted enough.
-garlic bagel with butter, toasted – the garlic was a bit too heavy, I wish I chose onion bagel instead; also, not toasted enough. Considering they charge the same price for butter and cream cheese, it could have used more butter.
-chocolate chip muffin & apple cinnamon muffin – both were good, but would have been nicer if if they could warm up, but they don’t.
The service was great. They announce orders loud enough and are quick with the orders. I love the way they package the bagels, in a wrapper, then a little bag.
If I order bagels again, I’d ask them to double toast or extra toast the bagel so it’s not so soft. The muffins are sitting out in the open (on the wall) for what seems like the whole day. I think they should store them in a closed container to keep freshness and flies/bugs away. The muffins and other baked goods look like they are brought in from outside and not baked in-house. It would be nice if they have the capability to heat them.
There is outdoor seating available as well as a little “kitchen” for kids to play with. There is parking around the building, shared by other businesses.
Would I return? Maybe if I’m in the area or really craving a bagel.
The staff is friendly and upbeat, even when it gets busy. The space is clean and has a nice neighborhood vibe. It can get a little crowded on weekends, so be prepared for a short wait, but it moves quickly.
