Tried this place for a special dinner tonight. Very small limited menu, but that was ok. Ordered two very basic drinks. Waitress came by about 15 minutes later, said they were working on our drinks, took our food order. 15 minutes later, nothing. Checked at the bar, hadn’t even started our drink order. We left.

My wife and I have been going to the Bix Bistro since it originally opened.
They have an item on the menu that’s called the presidential pork chop. This pork chop had been on the menu since the restaurants origination. President Obama stayed at the hotel enjoyed the pork chops so much he asked the chef to allow him to serve this meal at the White House!!!!
One of my favorite pork chops best I’ve ever had!!!
They no longer employ the chef that originally created this menu item but they still offer the “Presidential pork chop”.
I’ve been there on three different occasions in the past year and they have not come close to recreating the original menu item!!!
Why their chef will not follow the original recipe and create a menu item that was extremely popular I don’t understand.
They insist on creating their own version of this menu item and it’s not even close to the original menu item.
I wish the owners of The Establishment would tell the chef to put his ego aside and serve the original recipe item.

The food and service were outstanding. The server knew about all the dishes we asked about and had details about the cocktails and champagne. He also was well versed in the hotel and surrounding area. From the appetizer to salad to our steaks everything came out as ordered and was delicious. Highly recommend!

I stopped in for breakfast while staying in this amazing hotel, The Black Hawk Hotel. The waitress was very friendly. I ordered the omelette with ham and Swiss cheese. This was a phenomenal value for the large portions. The omelette had chunks of delicious ham and gooey Swiss cheese. The hash browns were crisp and the English muffin was toasty. The whole breakfast was only 14.00 and I took half of it back to the room for the following day. Nice atmosphere to start my day.

We arrived in a huge group on a tour bus during a tornado and a flood watch, and unexpectedly our entire group had to stay at the hotel to dine that night. We filled up the entire restaurant, almost every seat. The host welcomed us all with a huge smile and kind words, and made all of us feel welcome. I told her I knew she wasn’t expecting all of us, and I apologized for descending upon her the way we did. She didn’t miss a beat and told all of us that she was so happy we were there, and that she couldn’t wait to make us feel welcome. Within minutes we all had menus, ice water, and some of the most delicious bread and butter I’ve ever had. We got to sit by our friends, no fuss was made, and the ladies that waited on us moved like a well oiled machine taking our orders and bringing our hot food and delicious drinks. I’m bad with names but the host had reddish blonde hair and the other two were a short blonde and a long brown ponytail. There was also a man who was bald who appeared out of nowhere and brought us water and he was so charming. The lady in charge of it all knows what she is doing and has a great team. My table was happy and I think the entire tour bus was pleased as well. Beautiful hotel and beautiful night.

We come here each year and this year the food was not good. Steak flavorless, asparagus undercooked, kids sliders were 90% bread. The kids’ fries were super salty. Butternut squash ravioli was inedible. Truffle mashed potatoes had zero essence if truffle.
For the price it’s very disappointing, but even just from a food perspective it was disappointing. The wait staff treated us well and drinks were well made, though.

Popped in for a quiet lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Best Tuscan soup I’ve ever had. And the Blackhawk salad was amazing too.

Not exaggerating when I say I had the worst service experience from a waiter today. Server walked by us 4 times, never acknowledged us. we got our own silver ware and asked host to get drinks for us. While the host is serving us drinks, the server then asks the host if he is taking her table from her(she still has not spoken to us at this point and we are almost done with our meal at this point). Host says ‘nope you can create a ticket for this table, they are all yours’. Shortly after, the server seats and get drinks for other tables while continuing to ignore us. She tried to fill my drink without asking what I had. She only acknowledged us twice after our meal was done and that was for a drink we had already gotten and for the check. As a server myself for many years I understand having missed a table here and there on a busy day, but rectifying it would be the next step, not being rude to your host and blatantly ignoring the people you (did not) serve. By the way this occurred during middle of brunch buffet around 10am, and there maybe 4-5 visible tables sat in the whole place. Don’t think this is worth $20 let alone $35. Won’t be back.
Atmosphere: Enjoyed the pianist in the background though and it’s a pretty building. No salt and pepper on tables. Had to find my own silver ware and still really didn’t determined who was serving.
Food: seemingly left over pastries, Cold chicken, barely reheated hash browns with dried cold melted cheese on top. After eating these I didn’t want to touch the salmon. Bread pudding was okay.
