Lovely cafe! We went here after the Michigan Renaissance Festival, and the greeter and our waitress were super friendly, kind, lovely to talk to. We were hungry an saving our appetite for after the Festival (for breakfast, lunch and dinner) so we stopped by at Bittersweet cafe. Everything was delicious and fresh. The cappuccinos were delicious, I got the almond joy one and they even refilled my mug with regular coffee afterwards (I do love me some black coffee! I had a bit of whipped cream leftover in my cup which made the black coffee delicious), which was very kind of them. I want to go back and try more menu items! For dessert, their homemade carrot cake hit the spot. Thankfully Bittersweet Cafe is less than an hour away from us, so we will be back for sure. I love homey and wonderful cafes like this, very cozy!

Such a cute Cafe. The server was pleasant and attentive and the other server was talking with his table and seemed very pleasant as well. This was my second visit here and the food is always great and reasonably priced. I had the turkey depot and a cup of chili.

My family and I ate dinner here for the first time today during the Holly Dickens Festival. We had a large group with 3 kids. It was an absolutely wonderful experience! The atmosphere was so cozy, our waitress was lovely, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the food was amazing. I got a toasted sub, it was so good! Kid/family friendly! I cannot say enough good things about this place, they put a lot of heart into what they do, and it shows. My son said it was his favorite place he’s ever gone out to eat at, he’s 5. We can’t wait to go back!

Nice little breakfast/lunch place. I had the soup and 1/2 sandwich combo. The sausage and corn chowder was creamy and seasoned perfectly. The tuna sandwich was good too. They serve alcohol, beer, wine, cocktails, as well as soft drinks and coffee. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I’ll be back.

I Enjoy shopping and supporting local businesses, however, I will not be supporting the Bittersweet Cafe ever again. I took my grand children out for breakfast there this morning and did not have a good experience at all.
First off, I asked for half and half (the real stuff, not the stuff in little plastic containers) and was given a look, like I was asking for something I shouldn’t be asking for. We ordered our food and it came out separately, which I understand if toast isn’t done yet, but my hash browns came out 8 minutes before the rest of my breakfast.
I should also mention we were the only guests in the restaurant.
When I ordered, I was very specific about my over medium eggs being cooked. I even apologized for being so specific, but can’t eat an egg if the white part isn’t cooked!
My eggs were raw, so of course sent them back. The second time they came out, they were still raw. By now, I’m getting a little more agitated, but when the server asked how they were, I told her they are still raw and showed her the eggs. Her reply, was that she didn’t cook my eggs! Ok, I know you didn’t cook my eggs, but what an inappropriate comment!
Of course, they offered to make them again, maybe scrambled? I declined as my grand kids were almost done eating by now! And if I wanted scrambled eggs, I would have ordered scrambled eggs!
As we were leaving, I ran into the manager. I tried to explain my experience, (which by the way they didn’t even offer to take the charge off my bill) she clearly took the side of her staff and could have cared less that we did not get good service or food cooked the way we ordered it.
I could understand if they were very busy, but we were literally the only guests in the restaurant!! Now, I understand why!!!
They must have new owners, because this place used to be busy all the time! Good food and service.
I will never steps foot in there again!
Going out to eat is expensive these days and I was looking forward to a nice breakfast with my grand kids! I will definitely pick a different place next time!

Cute, tiny, quaint and cold inside when it’s cold outside. The front door opens directly into the restaurant so even when we were seated towards the back of the building we felt it every time the front door opened and the building never heated up on this very cold day we were there for a late breakfast. So late that I actually had lunch instead because the main breakfast selections were over early. Waldorf salad was ok. Not amazing. Lots of walnuts but straight out of the package kind of plain walnuts. All the beer selections are bottled beer. Nothing on tap. Charming decor with a touch of Paris and a vintage vibe.

Our favorite place to visit for lunch after we are visiting our husbands at Great Lakes National cemetery! The service is excellent, cuisine so good and the manager is our friend with connection to Germany!
