I booked a tasting menu – only to discover when I arrived that this only worked for 2+ people.
My onion soup arrived on a napkin that was pre-soaked with jus; the cheese was carbonized in places; the onions were undercooked. The steak was better; but there was far too much garlic on the tomato, and the peppers in the ratatouille were pretty crunchy.
The servers were very friendly, but didn’t check in to see how I was doing. The wine was nice, although I had to ask twice for a wine to accompany my main course.
Pity – I’ve had better experiences in the past.
For the price we paid is recommend.
Just a shame it wasn’t as busy as it should be. They do so many good deals to bring it in customers.
I had the pork belly and it was delicious. The house wine was rather cheap and it tasted very good. I would recommend.
The only thing that bothers me as you do not get any free bread and butter we had to pay £8.50 for bread and butter
But was very much worth it using the First Table app where it was 50% off The food bill
We went to try their new spring summer menu and had:
– Salade de crabe and fenouil
– 6’O’clock gin cured Escabeche of mackerel, potato salad
– Bourguingnon d’agne
– Merlu au berre noisette
– Delice myrtilles crème au citron
– Rhubard and berry trifle (lol cannot find the French name on the menu)
The trifle was insane. One of the best desserts I’ve had
The hake was soft and buttery, and complemented extremely well by the croutons and samphire
If I was being super picky, I would have liked a little bit more crab in the starter.
The bistro has also launched a brand new Prix Fixe menu that is exclusive to Bristol that brings together local and seasonal ingredients. Think Onglet steak, ham hock croquettes and caramel desserts

Once inside staff were friendly, although at times nowhere to be seen.
Afternoon tea was generally nice and the atmosphere was nice. The downside was the vegan scones were rock hard and completely inedible. I informed a member of staff who apologised but did nothing to compensate, like offering an alternative or discount.
The food was amazing, and staff made sure we had the best experience. 🙂
The staff that evening were Sully and Katherine, both very smiley and helped us with giving guidance on the dishes and specials as well as looking after us.
We definitely will be back
